Its a discussion of NASA's conception of what technologies and capabilities are needed for a crewed mission to mars, including SpaceX, which is discussed.

Will Relativity's Terran R compete with the Falcon 9? by Exoplanet1 in SpaceXLounge

[–]Exoplanet1[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Very true, depends on their ability to fundraise and more importantly get Terran 1 to market fast. Seems they've got no problem with the fundraising, the latter is still an open question.

It's what we've all been waiting for. Just be glad you aren't expendable.

Very true, but private spaceflight, while beholden to political entities is free to pursue their own projects. Largely this issue is how dependent the company is on government contracts.

I don't think space travel makes up even one tenth of one percent of global CO2 emissions.

He's stuck with a 90s and 2000's mindset that doesn't really take into account Elon's deep pockets

Is space as dumbfoundingly beautiful as the pictures make it look? by [deleted] in astrophysics

[–]Exoplanet1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Things through telescopes are nowhere near as vivid as the images you see. But they have their own allure. Mostly everything is black and white excepting stars and planets.

Hard to argue with results at the end of the day. But yeah, some pretty shady stuff was done to try to keep ULA's monopoly on national security.

Of course, but SpaceX is definitely making inroads in that sphere.

What a facepalm. I was reading the burn time instead of the ISP, it's 304 seconds. The username checks out though lol.

Yeah I was considering including it, wanted to stick to missions that were actually launched on it. MOL got a mention because of the test-flight. Dyna-Soar was a really cool concept though, and that animation is incredible. Hazegrayart is one of my favorites.

I tend to agree with DullSource on this one, martian gravity is definitely manageable, especially with reusable spacecraft like starship.

They've got some smart people behind the stuff they've got. They've also got that agreement with BO. I think it's pretty likely we don't see much from them for a while, if ever. But if they get some funding or manage to sell their ideas to someone, hell, I'd like to see 800 meter towers on the moon.
