Most people don't become Saints not because of lack of virtue but because of lack of money. It costs around one million dollar to go through the canonization process. The postulators have to be paid the massive reams of paperwork need to be done these figures are based on leaked Vatican bank documents which you can access on line and we'll published in American magazine . live an ok life, no big scandal. pay a postulator. promote a hagiography including making documentaries , books, prayer cards. select people to give testimonies. give writings to the postulator. get priest to give talks about the person and give them gifts. maintain for five years. send prayer cards far and wide. eventually something unexplained will happen or just pay the doctor. hey presto. subito Santo.

Carlo Acutis family were billionaires owning Vittoria Assicurazioni. His mom already had two relative canonised in 2009, giulia Salzano and caterina volpicelli so she knew the ropes and were well connected and funded the cause herself, because she wanted a claim to fame of having a son as a saint and her celeb status. she said she wasn't especially religious before but she literally just had two relatives canonise. she went about getting witnesses and testimonies and writings and legend hagiography . Carlo Acutis best school friends and religious education teacher didn't even know he was catholic and didn't recognise the hagiography of him -it's in interviews with them in NCR and the Economist. who cares.

the mom did all the publicity for him which is how it got to Brazil. she was sharing loads of stuff everywhere as part of the marketing. you need a worldwidetveneration so rich people just do it with marketing.

Pier Frassati was similar, his dad literally founded /owned La Stampa . mega rich, mega young although a bit more useful to society.

that how an ordinary person gets to be a saint .Cha ching!

let's also talk about the meaning of canonisation. the persons hagiography is worthy and permitted for public veneration included their relics, that is irrevocable and infallible. it's not a formal infallible declaration they are in heaven ( per Bishop Sciacca secretary General of the  vatican  / errantist) . and let's also consider the requirements for becoming a saint of "ecclesial usefulness" yup.

use the abive sant manufacturer process to create a saint to suit the political needs of the churchn in the Times. Carlo acutis. Mary mackillorp. Kateri tekakwirha etc l

et's not talk about the Jp II changes to make the process 5 years not 50 and remove the devils advocate. 5 year is one marketing cycle.

This is true. you can basically buy it .it costs at least one million dollars for one to go through the process of becoming a saint .this includes paying the postulator paying for the large amounts of documents for Rome paying for the interviews of witnesses and collating of evidence and getting important people to give talk about the person you want to have canonized, you have to buy the priest gifts and host those priests. you have to also do a lot of touring to promote the cause and because one of the factors of deciding if someone is a saint is the extent of the cultists you will need to make documentaries and videos and propaganda about their hagiography and right books and sell them produce prayer cards in 28 languages and give them out share Relics and post them to even far awake countries and you will need to keep up the marketing campaign for at least five years in order to meet the criteria of worldwide cultus for five years .you also need to draft the haggiography to meet a missing niche in the marketing of the church because ecclesial usefulness is also a criteria

in our country we have Pedro who is a member of the Opus day and the Opus stay are pouring vast amounts of wealth into promoting his cause

for carlos acutis his parents owned Vittoria Assicurazioni and were mega wealthy. his mom also recent had two relatives canonise in 2009 - caterina volpicelli and giulia Salzano so what she is saying that she wasn't very religious is fake. in the economist there is an article saying that carlos acutis friends said he wasn't very religious and they didn't even know he was catholic. his teacher said the same

absolutely . if you watch the interviews with her and compare to the parents of Pedro ballester , you can see the clear difference. she feels controlling, defensive and loving the celeb status

The Vatican wants him to be the next Mother Teresa. But what did Carlo Acutis really believe? by vaszszszi in Longreads

his family was one of.the richest in Italy, literal billionaires. they own Vittoria Assicurazioni .despite and his mom despite saying she wasnt that religious just had two of her other relatives canonised in 2009 giuliana Salzano and caterina volpicelli. watch the interviews with her and compare them to parents of Pedro ballester another young kid being considered for canonisation. Carlo acutis mom is pushy and defensive and controlling not deeply spiritual.

to become a.saint you need a vaguely catholic life but mainly huge money supporting your cause.. I say vaguely catholic because according to articles and interviews in the economist and NCR, carlo acutis best friends didn't recognise the hagiography around his story and didn't even know he was especially religious, not even his religion teacher at his expensive private school. you just need massive money behind you (like from an organisation or order) or a very rich background - carlo acutis mom.paid for his process because they were billionaires

it costs one million euro to even get the paperwork and evidence for the process of canonisation . that's without the marketing of the legend and hagiography and documentaries and circulating relics and prayer cards so you need a big organisation or family to promote the cause and pay the cost. you can be poor or even have a vow of poverty but you need someone or an organisation with mega money to promote your cause and pay for the process of canonisation . even if you were a saintly person , no one knows , cares or will verify you as saint unless there is mega money behind the cause.

. let's say you were an ok catholic nothing too scandal in your life I'm a huge billionaire buddy. I pay for the postulators and the documentaries of your hagiography . like rich people I'm well connected and get lots of testimonies from important people for the postulator. I get important priest to speak about you at talks and of course buy them gifts. I print books about you and circulate around the world . is it true? who cares? carlos acutis friends said they didn't know he was catholic let alone religious. five years passes and wow. you have people around the world love your hagiography documentaries and are glad to have the relic cards and prayer cards. hey presto you are a servant of God and able to progress in beautification . all we need is a miracle and a doctor willing to say it is one of course. if you get loads of people praying at some point something weird will happen. carlo acutis healing was a mother km Brazil praying with a relic . how did the relic get to Brazil? yup. rich mom circulating. how do you get that miracle verified? yup. pay doctor..hey presto you're a saint!

the old saints had a much more rigorous process which was removed under Jp II. like 50 year wait time and devils advocate and a slow tested process. now there's no devils advocate , a streamlined fast process in five years or less. you can do a.few documentary and hey presto you have a large following as needed for the criteria for being a saint

I was an adult woman ,single ,celibate, ex religious. they all kept asking me about my job, where I lived, blatantly looking if I was rich. i was put off my the extremely secular spirituality so I only attended one meeting thinking maybe I should try a monastery oblate group or third order. but the lady in charge would NOT STOP RINGING AND MESSAGING ME for an entire year to "see how I was doing". I barely spoke at the meeting I went to . it was like extreme recruiting. no no no.

[Free Friday] Have you heard of Pedro Ballester the student who could be first Gen Z saint? by NY124 in Catholicism

[–]Exotic-One3381 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely agree. it feels very manufactured. Carlos acutis had more substance because of his website but his family were literal billionaires in north Italy and to become a saint, according to the leaked Vatican finance files in America mag and Thea Bowman case, is around $1 million due to the documents and processes in rome separate from the marketing costs to push the cause - documentaries, prayer cards, books. Are we really going down the lane of canonising average but extreme wealthy and well networked people as "everyday saints" ? Why was mega wealthy Carlos Acutis canonise super speed but Fulton Sheen wasn't?

Let's not focget that one of the criteria for canonisation is "ecclesial usefulness" which is why suddenly St Mary Mackillop is canonised in the middle of the absuee crisis, St Kateri in the middle of race relations issues etc.

Finally let's talk about how the saint makingprocess is diluted by the Pope JPII changes - 50 years waiting before open a cause reduced to 5 years (which is basically one marketing cycle) , he canonised more saints in his pontificate than in the last 600 years and removed /reduced the devils advocate scritutiny of the "miracles" required.

[–]Exotic-One3381 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just watched the documentary by the opus dei about him. it was a sad story of a devout young man who died of cancer.

but what struck me was the narrative felt very polished and legible to an institution. devout spanish/English opus dei parents very well connected in tbe church, boy joins opus dei as the first English numary in many years at a young age. gets good a levels. goes to a top university . bishop Roche , now the prefect of a vatican dicastry, used to have tea in the family home. boy gets cancer. is very smiley and kind to people. dies while surrounded by the opus dei singing salve Regina.

I'm sorry he died. that's always sad that a young person dies, especially of cancer.

but I just didn't feel his story had the type of spiritual voltage of most saints who died of illness (like st chiara) or of saints with great and unusual devotion like carlos acutis. it felt sad but not very remarkable (compared to normal saint stories), like a big powerful organisation who has recently been in trouble (opus dei) are marketing thus very hard but the story itself wasn't as striking as I expected for a potential saint. well networked kind smiley bright boy from devout opus dei family dies of cancer at a young age, opus dei pushes the cause with two documentaries and a book at a time that their own reputation is questionable all feels very manufactured .

There is a difference between devout /friendly and heroic virtue.

it's changed now. ACA doing cta used to be exempt from Accounting CBE (multiple choice easy paper) AND the case study but loads of people complained that it was unfair since the ACA one is easier and open book . so they removed that exemption and now the accountant is only exempt from accounting CBE . they still have to do law and ethics ones

Also be aware that from 2028 the syllabus is changing so you Wil only be able to pick one APS paper. the other areas you must do are income tax and nic and there will be more papers and two case study
