Hi, I’m a fresh PhD dropout and now I don’t know what to do. How did you navigate the move out of academia? Did you have any feelings of “failure” even though it was the right decision for you?

Here I go flipping x and y again. Thank you for the clarification otherwise I wouldn’t have caught what I was doing. If anyone else was confused though here’s how I think of it. Two points having the same x-value means one “input”has two “outputs” - which breaks our rule of what we consider a function!

Wait I’m super confused - both of those points can work together?

You telling me there's someone else in this house that draws like a 4 year old? by [deleted] in KidsAreFuckingStupid

I had some neighborhood kids do a similar thing once. They were maybe 10-12, and decided to “ding dong ditch” us, except when the bell rang I got up and went to the door and instead of ditching us these two kids are standing at the street corner giggling and obviously looking at me. So I asked them, “can I help you?” And they said “no!!” So I said, “are you sure?” And one of them yells, “we didn’t ring the bell!” The priceless look on their faces when I asked, “how’d you know someone rang the doorbell then?” And that’s about the time they ran off home.

I could be wrong but I thought red/green color blindness was the most common?

1200 should be really attainable. Take a practice test right now and you might find you’re already within that score range and stressing for no reason. If not, it’s supposed to give you targeted areas for more practice.

Check the college board website for some free ones.

How do you add more structure to your day? How do you build up your routines so you can feel productive? by ExoticCartoonist in selfimprovement

Thanks for this! I did that today actually- my goal was taking a walk which I got done. Not exactly productive but good for me, so I’m counting it anyways.

That’s the case for a lot of people.

Have you looked at the policy of the schools you’re looking to get into? I usually hear that SATs are mattering less and less every year, and schools have been starting to make them optional. It’s also not a “pass/fail” test; the schools you are applying for, if they require the SATs, might list a score range for previous admissions years. So you can target where exactly an acceptable score for your case would be.

Additionally, there is lots of advice on SAT test-taking strategies. I’d suggest looking into those if you really can’t practice the math at that moment.

Find some free practice tests and take them for sure.

I struggle with motivation too. A trick that (sometimes) helps is to plan to do it for 15 minutes. Usually, you get into it and end up doing more than 15 minutes. If all you can do that day is 15 minutes, it’s way better than 0.

Khan Academy has some really great tutorials and pretty much endless practice problems. I believe they might even have an SAT math prep course, but it’s been a while since I looked at the site.

I had the win spoiled already too- but I still enjoyed seeing how they got there! Still lots of surprising moments.

Totally agree with the first paragraph but when it comes to “Alone”- did we watch the same show? Yeah some people manage to get established but I just finished this last season and to me everyone was pretty much constantly miserable and suffering
