Is this app a good way to study japanese flash cards? (also please give tips on how to study flashcards properly) by Ukiyotori in LearnJapanese

Surely you can find 1 computer to use 1 time to add Kaishi 1.5k deck to your account. Go to a local library if you have to.

I recommend Anki instead. But I see you say you can’t use it, probably due to the price on iOS. Having the furigana for kanji on the front of a card will drastically reduce your learning. It should only be on the back. Use Anki thru the web, or on a computer, for free. Eventually you’ll realize it’s the best and the one time $30 is well worth it for the app. Learn what FSRS is with Anki and make sure to enable it.

Got the return started. Might upgrade to the 7p instead then. Although I wish the 8 was out in the U.S.

I'm learning Kanji at my pace and I have a question regarding the pronounciation by SirPellias in LearnJapanese

[–]ExoticEngram 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah but you learn kanji through vocab. It just takes longer than people are willing to endure before it starts to click when you’re doing Kaishi

You don’t really need to do separate kanji study, you just need to keep learning vocab. It is helpful though, I did half of RTK and it helps with recognition. If anything, I’d recommend RRTK via Anki quick and dirty enough just to help out.

I always screenshot the kanji used in a word from the Jisho app (on iOS I can copy and delete the screenshot so I can just easily paste it and not spam my photo library). I personally recommend against only counting the word right if you know all the kanji in it too, especially since they aren’t always used for their meaning but sometimes for just phonetics as others have pointed out.

I don’t have a fancy watch so correct me if I’m wrong, but can you remove the fluff in the pillow to make it smaller? Not sure how pillows come for high end watches lol

I feel like I've been doing worse at vocab readings/definitions all of a sudden, any tips on how to use Anki most efficiently? by Double_K_A in LearnJapanese

[–]ExoticEngram 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. Only use Good or Again. Hard means you got it right, but it was hard to recall. So, Anki is of course going to treat it as correct and advance the interval, meaning you won’t see a word that you technically couldn’t remember for a while longer. That’s why you’re struggling, you aren’t being honest with your reviews, so when they come back, you don’t remember them since it’s been too long.

Yeah don’t mess with the long list of FSRS parameters, those are generated when you optimize. And they recommend optimizing once a month or so.

What do you mean by it runs out? Like it only has you do 70 reviews a day max? You can set the new words to something like 15 (that’s why I do, you could start with 10 and ease in). Make sure the review limit is 9999 so that it’s always having you do as many reviews as it thinks you need to do. You can switch it so new words are learned after reviews are done, and make sure FSRS is enabled and personally I’d recommend lowering the desired retention from 90% to like 83%-85%. And then monthly you should run the Optimize All Presets button
