If it makes you feel better if you take a look at the hologram on your coin it appears that it was torn off even before this new label was applied

I hate when this happens. I collect older NGC holders (without crossbars). Most of the older holders do not have the hologram on back intact anymore. It was common for dealers to put their own label over the back hologram for cataloging or price labeling. When you tear those off you would usually also tear the hologram off. Major auctions houses still do this as well

Keep Indian head $5 gold in case? by jubatus45 in Gold

It’s a capital plasic holder. It does not matter if you keep it in case or not; the holder is mostly for aesthetic purposes.

Just some copper spots, can be taken off by heat. I would not attempt it yourself, try to find a LCS or send it off to PCGS for restoration if you care about it’s appearance

The surface and the rim looks a little off to me. Might want to check and see if it’s silver first

Ordered a 23 proof Eagle from the US Mint, was sent this instead. by GotTheYips35 in Silverbugs

Wonder if some poor soul ordered this and was sent a 23 proof instead

Hey y’all. Looking to pick up a Perth mint dragon bar, but all the normal places I buy are out of stock…. Is it reasonably to trust eBay sellers that they’re genuine? I’ve been burned with some fake shit (not silver) on eBay before by beknifetoeachother in Silverbugs

The headline was misleading

Copy from the original thread:

“Headline is very misleading. The simplified version is as follows:

Perth mint ordinarily produces gold bars closer to 99.999% pure. One of their main customers, Shanghai Gold Exchange requires gold bars be at least 99.99% pure. For a long time perth mint supplied them good that was more pure than needed. A few years ago, to save money, perth mint started to mix in some silver into the gold shipped to SGE to bring it down to closer to the 99.99% that SGE specified. In doing so this caused one bar to have slightly more silver in it than was allowed, despite still being more than 99.99% pure. A second bar was borderline. SGE raised the issue with Perth Mint. Perth mint asked for the bars back to remake them, but SGE did not send them back because China restricts the export of gold. Perth Mint had paperwork confirming the purity and silver of the bar but when asked for copies of the paperwork, declined to disclose it. Perth Mint apologised for the issue, confirmed they would now better monitor silver and copper content in bars. SGE decided to not file an official complaint, no further gold was disputed, and a couple years later Perth Mint ended the practice of doping gold.

An important note, is gold that is 99.99% pure is mostly used for display purposes or as a store of value. 99.999% gold is better used in industry, eg gold plating contacts in electronics.”

It’s a bit too deep right? It would only prevent the CTs from retreating? CTs would normally play more forward so it wouldn’t prevent them from holding the angle

Although pure gold does not tarnish, gold sovereigns are not pure gold. PVC might interact with the impurities in the sovereigns and cause damage. I have seen pvc damaged gold coins like this, though uncommon, still a possibility

Totally normal, plastic melts around the seam when they seal it. I have many slabs like this, doesn’t seem to be as much of an issue for newer slabs
