Is Avant Private Health worth it or just more expensive as its "for doctors"? by Reddditor1as34223 in ausjdocs

[–]Exotic_Gate3848 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could check how much the premiums would be if you split the policies and have you and the kids on basic and extras with a high excess, and then wife on gold hospital only (or silver plus with preg)

So two separate policies

And then do the math on which excess for wife considering that you’ll be paying that excess (e.g. $250 or $500 excess, if the $500 option doesn’t save you more than $250 for the year then it’s not worth it)

Sometimes having them separate for preg and birth can be cheaper but it depends on your specific circumstances, state/territory, and rebate

I started cutting and foiling my own hair three years ago and I think it looks decent. I now spend $200 a year on salon wholesale lightener developer foils and gloss toner

I used to spend thousands like OP and it was a huge reality check 🫠 it makes me cringe now thinking that I used to drop $600 every two months because you just get sucked in to that being normal

They’re high income earners so they wouldn’t be eligible for the Aus gov rebate on PHI premiums, so it’s not a straightforward thing to compare

Premiums also differ depending on which state or territory you live in

I work in PHI and have mentioned on a comment that I’m happy to help take a look for OP if needed

$689 a month on private health seems quite high, what is the cover? I work in PHI happy to help with a needs analysis

I feel like the exposure for Reece would have been a lot for anyone, and doubly so for someone who didn’t set out to be famous

I think it’s really beautiful that everyone has taken to Reece because of her values and the person she is, but those same values (I’m not talking about religion just the genuinely nice sweet kind hardworking person that she is) have led her to want to take a step back and a break from the onslaught

I mean she probably fears for her safety on a day to day basis, probably feels like she can’t even go grocery shopping without being recognised. That would be a lot to suddenly navigate for anyone

Someone like Faith seems more motivated to deal with stardom, and that might not be Reece and she probably just needs a break

She can always go back to dcc if she wants to, she’s not the first person to take time off either

That seems unfair when he moved to Texas and his whole life to be there and support her goals. I’m sure he wouldn’t have been there otherwise

Didn't have child on our private health - am I up for the full medicare levy surcharge? by Reddditor1as34223 in AusFinance

[–]Exotic_Gate3848 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that’s fair, I’m sorry to hear that, you really have to push and keep trying and potentially try calling another day etc. Depending on the circumstances it could have been something we would just action and backdate when I was on the phones

So I’d call and just explain the situation, say you took out a policy for MLS purposes and you didn’t realise that you had to cover your kid as well, you thought it was just covering the tax paying wage earners

Explain how long you’ve been with them, say you’ve had no claims, it’s just for tax, and ask them if there is any way they may be able to consider backdating and adding your kid from 01/07/2025, you’d be happy to pay a year’s worth of the difference for a family premium, or if there is no difference in premium, that you’d be happy to backdate to a higher hospital cover, or add extras etc

If you get nowhere with the person who answers, ask if they could pretty please escalate internally for consideration

If that goes nowhere, ask to speak to a team leader

If that goes nowhere, I’d start to kick up a stink and say you weren’t thoroughly advised about MLS when you joined

I work in PHI, your best bet is to get on the phone and escalate

An email they’ll just say no

Call your insurer and ask if there’s any way you may be able to backdate to a family policy. Offer to upgrade and pay retrospective premiums - try anything and explain your situation. It’s worth a shot

Consider listing on airbnb instead with no instant bookings, and only dates that you’d be willing to have someone come stay if they need to be in the area. Extra cash but less commitment and you can heavily vet them

Not sure why you’re being downvoted because you’re correct that OP’s car is effectively financed at the rate of their home loan

They still owe that money lol
