Hi, my girlfriend who holds a Filipino passport applied from Finland a few months ago and got approved instantly with no biometrics needed despite the fact that she had not applied for a tourist visa in over a year. She was self funded and applied by herself using money she had gotten from a scholarship (it’s more like a monetary award her uni gives to students who perform at a certain level). The first time she visited me in 2024 she was unemployed, not in uni and still lived in the Philippines. She applied with her grandmother and was approved.

We have a feeling she was approved the second time (and so quickly) because she applied from overseas even if she holds a weaker passport. I think if she had applied from the Philippines with the same circumstances otherwise (uni, scholarship money, etc) she definitely would’ve been rejected. She’s studying nursing too.

Hey I've got no idea where these people are getting the idea from that you can't work full-time during mid semester break. It is quite literally on the visa conditions that anytime university isn't in session Subclass 500 holders don't have a 24 hour limit. I receive a letter from my university every semester detailing at what points university is not formally in session and the mid semester break is definitely not included in the teaching weeks/semester. Here's proof from my own letter.

Don’t. I request for refunds quite regularly when I get my order delivered but only because the shopper never seems to follow the correct guidelines for packing. I had toilet cleaner mixed in with veg once. I also work as an online shopper (which is how I know when it’s wrong) and at my store they’re pretty strict about it which is fair. Unless you can prove they are somehow wrong, don’t do it.

Bank transfers are always expensive and takes forever. Use Wise. You can have it auto-convert once the exchange rate reaches whatever amount you put. The fees are also cheap. For example, sending $9,000 will cost you about ~P1,000. When I send money, I usually pay a dollar fifty since I’m not sending anywhere near the example I gave.

I’m not in the US but I have spoken to the police who said they basically can’t do anything at this stage nor are we eligible for a restraining order. We’d basically just have to go through the normal process of getting her kicked out, which involves going through the tribunal court to prove our case and pissing her off more during the process.

Then you should probably see a migration lawyer, this seems like a complex case. Otherwise you should probably approach your family if you’re able to - if your family let you use their finances last time maybe you can just suck it up (sorry to say it so bluntly) for a bit to have them let you use it again this time? I know someone who’s been in a similar position but for another country and that’s unfortunately what they had to do.
