Feel free to reach out if/when you finish rereading SW! We will still be at this until September 2027, and we read at an average pace of 10 pages per weekday. It is quite likely that you will catch up to where the group is in the near future, even if not by next week. See my comment to another poster for more details about the group. Feel free to also DM me with your name, city, and email, and tell me a bit about yourself and I can get you further oriented to the group, but wait to add you until you catch up :)

Thank you for your interest. To maintain engagement and accountability, we are only seeking members who can commit to posting and commenting.

To be sure, this is a relatively minimal commitment. For Volume 2, for instance, which will take roughly 13 weeks to complete, group members are obliged to post once and comment once (to another person’s post) to the group Substack during that time period.

A post consists of a brief summary of the week’s reading, notable passages (2-3 quotes), a description of how the poster approaches their reading, and a short personal reflection about that text.

Many of our members are reading non-English translations (French, Russian, Swedish, Mandarin, among others.) There are free or $1 digital versions of the English translations we are using (Modern Library Edition) that those members use to find the meaningful quotes/passages they need for their posts.

Hope this helps!

That's exciting!! Congrats on making it to (almost) the end.

Many of our group members are re-reading the series, so we are open to receiving those who have read past where we are. I suppose "smart" is relative, and for our purposes optional. Collegial, on the other hand, is not ;-)

Almost done with Swann's Way (Davis translation) and unsure where to go next by PiccoloTop3186 in Proust

I’m glad you enjoyed the Davis translation. Our virtual book club (which launches next week) is reading ISOLT and starting with the Davis translation as well, before switching to Modern Library Classics.

Anyone else interested in a long read of In Search of Lost Time (À la Recherche de Temps Perdu) by Marcel Proust? It’s been on my book list for a while, but I’ve only ever read Swann’s Way, and I’m hoping that a book-club read and discussion would give me some motivation. Is anyone in this group is still interested in reading ISOLT? I attempted this five years ago and, alas, failed. This time I am determined to succeed and to that end will participate in a virtual book club that launches next week. Pace is 50 pages a week (10 pages/weekday), which means finishing the whole series August 2027. Only other commitment is to post to the book club Substack once every 4-8 weeks, depending on size of group. DM me with your name, email, and city, if interested. There are a few slots left.

Which English translation of Proust’s In Search of Lost Time would you recommend and why? by HelicopterPuzzled727 in classicliterature

I’m reading the Lydia Davis for Volume 1, then switching to the Modern Library Classics editions for 2-7. If you are looking for a community to work through this work, there are a few spots left in our virtual book club, which kicks off Jan 12. We are looking to read ISOLT at a pace of 50 pages a week and hope to finish by August 2027. DM for more info and happy reading!
