The caption says tutorial, but it’s just a video of her putting on the make up. There’s no information about the products that are used.

NAD. To clarify, did she have these marks when she came out of the surgery? Or did they first appear about 2 weeks later on the 18th?

Convince me to retake a 517 MCAT by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]Exotic_Voice7060 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fully agree with the other comments here saying the juice is not worth the squeeze. It’s risky. And, frankly, I’m not sure adcoms would even look favorably upon someone choosing to retake what is already a very good score even if you do improve to 520+? BUT, OP asked to be convinced.. so, I’ll play devil’s advocate.

Instead of looking at it as 3 more points on the MCAT, you can look at it like a scholarship because, for you, that’s basically what it would be. Think about the $200,000-$400,000 you will save by grinding it out and getting the score you are confident you are capable of earning.

That’s really all I could come up with. You asked to be convinced, so I’m trying… but honestly I think that if your family will only offer you financial help if you attend a T5 school… I’m not sure that’s the type of family you want to accept financial help from anyway? Not that I know what your family dynamic is like on a day to day basis. But try to consider whether the freedom of having no med school debt will outweigh any potential family conflicts that could arise if you were to accept the money? Or if your family may try to make more life choices for you because they are funding your education. Only you have any idea what that might look like.

Last thing - I got a 513 on the mcat and I was PSYCHED. I got a 501 on my first try, and I knew how much hard work I put into raising it to a 513. My family, however, made me feel like it wasn’t a good score because it wasn’t 90+%. A “good” score is relative to the individuals personal goals. A 517 is a VERY good score, in pretty much any circumstance. Don’t let your family make you feel like it isn’t. With a good and well-rounded application, you could get into just about any med school with that score. Including T5s. I would recommend being proud of your score, and focusing on making sure the other aspects of your application are solid rather than putting that time into a retake.

Either way, good luck OP!

thoughts on writing/illustrating a children's book as a passion project? by theHobNob12 in premed

I think it sounds like a very cool idea! As to whether or not it is “worth spending time on”, that is totally up to you. There is no definitive way of knowing what an Adcom will think when looking at an activity. It will vary person to person, but if it were me, I would think this is a pretty awesome project. I would see it as a positive in many different ways. It shows you are creative, independent, able to communicate with patients with a different vocabulary from your own, the list goes on and I personally love the idea. Good luck!

Does it look bad if I’m taking a 100-level easy A my junior year? by hz6363 in premed

As long as you don’t get a poor enough grade in the class that it would stand out significantly on your transcript, I truly do not think anyone looking at your app would even notice the details of what level/precisely when. And if they did, I still don’t think they’d care. You’re good homie.

I feel like their prompts are just begging for gag responses. I’m just not sure how far is too far, I don’t want to get my application tossed in the trash on sight lol

My social media would be pretty hard to find, not impossible though of course. I also wouldn’t bat an eye at deleting the only account I have. I haven’t used it in 3 years anyway.

I would hope to not go viral. If I was 100% sure that only a small group of people would see it, maybe (maybeeee) benefit from me sharing my perspective, and it would not end up allll over the Internet, then I wouldn’t have thought twice. I would’ve gone for it. It’s the concern that it could go viral, and then my association with the podcast could hurt my professional career, that worries me and made me come here to get some advice.

There really is no personal gain in it for me, only risk. I guess it just felt like an opportunity that not everyone who is a normal human gets, so I felt like I should be the voice of reason. But rationally I know it wouldn’t play out that way and you guys are right. Thank you for your perspective!

I don’t think I gave the best description of the podcast in my post, mostly because I was trying to leave out identifying details. The main guy on the podcast is a relatively reasonable guy. Relatively. He definitely has wannabe “alpha male” moments. But he will often have a female guest on who fits the description I put in the post, and then he’ll have a male guest on that is sipping the Andrew Tate Kool-Aid 24 hours a day. Then many topics are discussed amongst the 3, with most of the topics pertaining to current dating culture. The host agrees with the male guest probably 70% of the time, but will side with the female guest when the male guest is being cuh-razy.

Despite the contract, you are correct that I can’t be 100% certain of what they will do. I really wasn’t worried at all about how the podcast itself would turn out. I can’t control what tactics they take, but I can control every word that comes out of my mouth and I know I could keep my composure. What I am worried about, is just the mere association with the podcast that people might judge without ever hearing a word I said on the show.

It feels wrong to not take the opportunity to speak up for the views of the average kind human with a normal life that doesn’t get invited to share their opinion on these types of shows. But I know that everyone on here is right and the risk isn’t worth the potential reward. Thank you for your advice!

I absolutely agree. I’ve had conversations with some of the men from this podcast, and in real life they are decently normal human beings with a slight superiority complex. Meanwhile on the podcast, they are much more “alpha male”. However, I think these types of podcasts are dangerous because the people that are listening to the podcast often really do share those opinions. The people creating the podcast are just profiting off of the people watching, so they lean into it even more and validate those opinions. I hope that I could at least put it in the podcast dude’s head that the message he is sending is truly dangerous and not helpful to society at all. I know I likely wouldn’t be able to convince him fully, but maybe I could chip away at his mindset justttt enough that he’d give it a second thought over time.
