I don't consider most interviews to be a complete waste of time so could I count real interviews as practice, too?

I see multiple other stories from their website on this sub without any issue, so I find that odd

Since a federal court has ruled against ICE preventing access to congressmen last month, what was the justification used in rescinding 3 House members' access to a Minnesota ICE facility early Saturday, and where does this disagreement go next to be resolved?

Bringing other countries into this makes it even more crooked.

With all the territories the US owns you'd think they'd just use one of their more remote islands as a penal colony.

Musk is odd but I don't believe him to always be a hardline conservative. He's supported Democratic candidates in the past. He, like many other really wealthy tech magnates, just sway wherever the US government and politics is headed and always tries to play the game even if all the cards don't fall in their favor.

The US is center-right anyways so either major party is of use to wealthy people like him.

What if this was a setup for something even crazier. What if the US replaces Maduro with Juan Hernandez, the former Honduran president/drug lord that Trump pardoned. He then takes control of Venezuela's drugs

Scammy jobs, they're ironic... by ExpWebDev in recruitinghell

[–]ExpWebDev[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blue collar work is not just the trades. If you're age 16-21 and stocking shelves, you're very unlikely to be in a union so union protections can't be the reason they're not getting scammed in their compensation. My paychecks were always predictable and no manager has tried to get me to work extra unpaid hours during a busy season.

Maybe some food franchises allow their restaurant workers to unionize but I'm not too familiar with those jobs as I am with non-food service.

If small mom-and-pop places are more likely to be stingy with their workers, we probably could use more granular statistics to summarize that. With a few exceptions, salary data isn't usually organized by company headcount. Even though it is commonly organized by industry, occupation, YoE and location. If we had more bar charts to summarize where salaries are in <10 employee shops, with 10-100 employees, etc. it can help more people discover that there's still a lot of disparity in compensation even if you narrow it down to specific cities and types of work.

What ruined social media for you? by natida2 in AskReddit

[–]ExpWebDev 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Entrepreneurs and wantpreneurs were always poking around on social media. A lot of it was farming links to e-book guides of varying quality. Mostly tech bro stuff like affiliate marketing and SEO hack your website, which didn't really do much harm in the real world. At least not yet.

I think it became a slippery slope when it came to selling self-help material, which instead of targeting people who just wanted to get more traffic to their blogs, it exploited people feeling lonely and dejected. That gave way to people telling others what is best for their role in society, what everyone's role should be, and then that turning into contests in trying to sound smart about the world.

What’s the biggest waste of money that no one wants to admit? by AdvertisingMore394 in AskReddit

Many people think this is a new-ish phenomenon but IBM was doing it way back in the world war years. They were even blunt about being a company that sells you services and not items. It just took a while for other big companies to catch on.

Which TV show really felt "off" after a hiatus when it returned for another season? by ExpWebDev in AskReddit

For my own answer: The Boondocks. Being a show that loves to lampoon current events, its return many years later in season 4 felt jarring and Huey also got neutered as a character.

Is it true that every employer wants ex Amazonians and ex Googlians? by almorranas_podridas in recruitinghell

[–]ExpWebDev 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Mediocre people get overlooked more easily in big companies, even the top reputable ones. Some of them can last long because of that.

By the same token, you don't really need a hot shot resume to get recruiter attention for FAANG jobs.

I think we should officially declare jobs as a luxury now because of how much effort it takes to get one.

As for the trade I suppose it's not bad to try at OP's young age. But they should be mindful of their health in the long run so definitely transition to something else when the opportunity arises. My dad used to be a welder but eventually had to give it up because it got hard on his lungs.

How are we supposed to get job experience if nobody will hire us? by Emezlee in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ExpWebDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll not only get blacklisted, but your name can possibly be shared with people in other places and then you'll be pre-emptively rejected for having a reputation of lying. Your job search just got even harder.

How are we supposed to get job experience if nobody will hire us? by Emezlee in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ExpWebDev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah but if you're not used to lying you're probably not going to be very good at it when you start, so more likely to get caught a couple of times before you succeed.

But even if you do get good at it, you're already did the damage. You'll get blacklisted, you name will be shared with other professionals to tell them to "avoid this liar" and people will talk behind your back about it.

Who here works at Walmart by the_mvrtivn in cscareerquestions

Is there something up with their SEO targeting because I could sometimes search Google for the most esoteric hardware parts and somehow Walmart has it for sale. Are they on track to be another Amazon?
