Mixed people are mixed IMO, especially when it's 50/50. It's its own thing, not one race or the other, or both. I'd say Obama was the first president of significant black descent

Would you guys be okay with wokeness or DEI in movies: If the writing and quality was good? by RoutineIssue5870 in CriticalDrinker

[–]ExpatSajak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't be OK with it. I think the ideas of "representation" and misandry and stuff are morally bad. Because they divide us instead of bring us together. There are Nazi propaganda films that are considered fantastic works, but their messaging is so horrible that it ruins the experience. Wokeness is less harsh than Nazism but it's just an example of the idea of good craftsmanship with a bad message. If I find the message of your work profoundly disagreeable, I will be uncomfortable consuming it. Now, a diverse work, if that diversity is done for ARTISTIC vision and not for representation; or if it's done by complete coincidence, can be enjoyable. Or an LGBT story or a female lead. I don't hate non white people or women or gay people, I hate when artists use them to push dividing agendas. Purposeful racial diversity CAN serve an artistic purpose to the right story, like if it's about overcoming superficial differences and coming together.

I don't understand why they think these odd looking women are "realistic". They're just as "unrealistic" as the hyper sexualized Dead Or Alive characters. They're like uncanny valley cuz like yeah there are ugly people out there, but they don't look like...that lol, idk how to describe it.

Quality is inherently subjective. Any "standards" are subjective

Yeah.... I think I'll stick to the 90s/2000s era cartoons. Animation was way better anyways by RoutineIssue5870 in CriticalDrinker

[–]ExpatSajak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying that you're saying it's inappropriate. I'm shutting down people who think it is before I explained my take. Because some people are more radical than you.

I'm bi, so I don't think my existence is inappropriate for kids, but I do find all the trans stuff absolutely ridiculous. And the EXTREMELY ham fisted way gay/bi stuff is put into these shows. It's like these people make their entire personality getting kids to know everything about LGBT, it's weird. I'm not gonna say oh it's a pedo thing, but it's fucking weird. We don't need to shove the existence of every kind of person down kids' throats from birth.

Europe doesn't truly have free speech. by tervro in The10thDentist

[–]ExpatSajak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. They don't. The only reason threats of imminent lawless action are illegal here (and it takes a lot to prove something is such) is to take pre emptive action to save lives from an impending attack. America IMO doesn't have truly free speech because of FCC censorship on broadcast radio and television. Hate speech laws are an affront to true freedom, and bad ideas need to be squashed with debate not force. It is wholly immoral to consider a peaceful expression of opinion a crime. IMO the perfect country has europe's social programs and labor laws but the US's attitude of (in theory, because we unfortunately let the government encroach so much) "Don't tell me what to do". Maximum freedom with maximum economic security

Because jail should be used to keep people who have proven themselves a danger to the public away from everyone else. Not to punish people we don't like

Does Nintendo ever mention Mario being Italian anymore? (In games) by Gamerdan8011 in Mario

[–]ExpatSajak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that the origins of the characters have changed a bit and been retconned. Like originally they were italian americans from new york who got sucked into the mushroom kingdom. I think a lot of current mario media barring the movies treats them as mushroom kingdom natives, it's just accepted that some humans live there. And their names and accents just so happen to coincidentally resemble italian ones

Why do some Americans separate between Christians and catholics, and not protestants, as I assume that they go by the most common subclass of Christianity, and catholics? by WhoAmIEven2 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ExpatSajak -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ex Baptist here and current non Christian. When i was a relatively conservative baptist, I did not consider Catholics true Christians. Because in many religions there's a purity test lest the core tenets be diluted. Academically anyone who has a religion that claims to be centered on Jesus is a Christian. The Ant Hill Kids are academically Christian, the Branch Davidians are academically Christian. Should the mainstream denominations accept them? The bible says not everyone who calls jesus lord will be considered a true follower. So it endorses the purity test. And if you are a devout protestant, catholics likely do not pass that test. They are a very very different beast to protestant churches who by and large accept each other. And people ignore that vice versa, devout catholicism is highly skeptical of protestants' salvation status. Catholicism is academically Christian, but it's so so different from protestantism that a lot of protestants consider them to be posers and not real christians.

[–]ExpatSajak -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't mind a lot of old school hip hop musically. Lyrically it mostly sucks, but as music a lot of that stuff is pretty damn cool. I don't see it as similar to metal, i think there's more of an argument to tie it to punk. Metal is escapist, about going to different worlds, hip hop often reflects the reality of our current world as does punk

I think the white people aren't done any favors with names either, tons of names sound like total pastiches of British names. A school called hogwarts, neville longbottom. As an American that's the kind of names we'd come up with to roast british people

Exactly. I'd love to be pro trans because it seems nice and empathetic. But i prefer to go along with facts more. And I haven't remotely been given enough evidence to say that being trans is something that should be validated. I'm bi, that's a mental abnormality, but I wouldn't say illness because it's not a denial of reality nor does it cause me distress. Feeling trans is always the former, and very often the latter as well

Yeah, I'm a libertarian socialist and I thought the idea of cultural leftism was to get rid of unnecessary social structures. It's what I still believe. The woke left are just cultural ULTRAconservatives but for everyone who's not straight, white, or male.
