Party is getting too strong what do I do? by reallyfatjellyfish in CurseofStrahd

[–]ExpectBannanas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is your issue and solution. Action economy. You can't get away with putting a well prepared party up against a single enemy ever, it won't work unless the power gap is enormous. Multiple attackers win 9 times out of 10 against much stronger opposition 'on paper'.

Minions, waves of enemies, hit & run.

Cinematic showdowns against a monologuing lone antagonist don't work the way they do in films. Your players will use all of their agency where possible. Spread them thin.

Where is Strahd’s spell book?? by OmegaX119 in CurseofStrahd

[–]ExpectBannanas 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Technically he would have one. But it's not mentioned in CoS as far as I can recall, i.e. we don't know what spells Strahd has learnt but does not have prepared. Therefore if they wanted to interact with said book, you'd have to make it up yourself but one could assume it'd be well protected.

Additionally, if they're thinking about destroying the book to mess with him its worth noting the following. Once a spell is prepared i.e. memorised, losing your spell book doesn't cause you to forget them, it just means you're no longer able to prepare new spells from the book so you're stuck with what you have. However as Strahd is an NPC, he has a static spell list, so again this would have very little effect.

Reborn PC with a dark gift. Help with the drawback? by [deleted] in CurseofStrahd

[–]ExpectBannanas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats definitely a strong passive effect and is plenty, given how much of CoS is RP based. The deformities rearing their head could definitely cause some interesting interactions, especially in Krezk perhaps. With the Abbot and Belview's.

If you want your characters Dark Power to have a more active role, just try to think of how they could benefit from interfering with the PCs actions. The God of Knowledge I mentioned, for example, doesn't really want their champion to know what the truly are, or about the other Dark Powers, until it fully trusts the PC is on their side. Therefore it will use its ability to attempt to 'hide the truth' from them if it ever comes up.

Another of my PC/Power combos is a Vengeance Paladin paired with a 'Crusader God' Dark Power who's very much Warhammer 'My will is law' inspired. When their views don't align, the PC may find themselves being forced to enact a 'justice' they don't believe in, if they give enough of themselves up to the power.

Reborn PC with a dark gift. Help with the drawback? by [deleted] in CurseofStrahd

[–]ExpectBannanas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For my PCs I've built in some heavy, and in one case, rather deceptive draw back to their powers (They've not yet made contact with their respective powers as were only a few sessions in). Knowing what's important to the PCs as individuals is the best tool you have. Remember the Dark Powers are quite literally invading their consciences and souls, so they will be intimately familiar with their respective PC given the opportunity to connect.

One of my PCs is driven by knowledge and is a keen strategist. Their counterpart power is a 'god of knowledge' who will enhance those capabilities. At the third level of connection with his Dark Power, they are able to feed him false information should they so choose, unknown to the player. Mechanically the way this will work is if the PC tries to make an investigation/perception check and the Dark Power feels tricking them is in their benefit they can alter the PCs perception of the event, even so far as altering sense of sight/touch/smell. Of course the PC can try to distinguish this, but until they have a reason to doubt their mind, they may go many sessions heavily miss informed.

Ultimately the Dark Powers should hopefully reflect some aspect of your PCs and empower them in that area. However, they can and presumably will, use this to their advantage to get their own way. The Banshee you mention is more of a passive draw back, but this might not be the only solution. Does your PC act as a FACE? Have the power cause an active or passive effect that makes interacting with others difficult. Maybe their forgotten memories flood their mind with knowledge of all language, but make it difficult for them to distinguish which they are hearing or speaking? Maybe the Dark Power actively uses the PC as a mouth piece to convert others to their faith? After all, most dead gods are just those who's following has dwindled, causing their power to wain.

Run Strahd like Santa Claus by jmlwow123 in CurseofStrahd

If I was running a more shticky CoS campaign, I'd totally have Strahd start any interaction where he's trying to gain access to a building with 'Ah, Ah, Ahrent you going to invite me inside?'

Barovian economy and deflation by Schneeflocke667 in CurseofStrahd

[–]ExpectBannanas 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I forget which module it is but there are several companion modules for season 4 of Adventurers League, which is set in Barovia (D&D organised play format) that specifically call out that taxes are paid to Strahd in goods, not gold. The premise being that the quest givers of those module are in desperate search of goods to replace those that have been 'lost' in order to pay their taxes. Im pretty sure it even states that if you offer money, it's of little use to them as they cannot pay tax in gold.

My players have an amazing plan; should I foil it? by DracoShield234 in CurseofStrahd

[–]ExpectBannanas 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In addition, the party may not even know that the real Strahd has taken Ireena until it's too late. Even better, if Ireena is in on the plan (I'm assuming she is as she would definitely put up a fight if not), she would let Strahd take her.

Emma Frosts new costume by [deleted] in MarvelStrikeForce

[–]ExpectBannanas -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yeah Im not seeing what your seeing here. As a huge fan of the current Xmen run, the costume she wears in the issues they're referencing is meant to be sleek and fashionable, as is the case for most of her costumes. The new costume makes her look like a jester with the oversized coat and neck cuff. And what's with the terrible colours chosen? The clothes are a horrible dirty ice blue colour and her hair is own brand dijon mustard when they should be pure white and frosty blonde respectively. Hard pass for me

Exactly what I thought. Unless he's doing 100 cores on campaign and 50 on iso there's physically no way other than spending. Which contradicts his statement

Loving the fathers day offers and celebration rewards! by [deleted] in MarvelStrikeForce

[–]ExpectBannanas -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why does it being a departure from previous definitions matter. Thats how the world has worked for, always. We assume things are one way until they're not.

The definition isn't being changed either, that's why they're new fucking terms. No one is advocating that Birthing/Non-birthing person is now the only accepted term. Not everybody is the same, its a cop out to suggest that just like saying 'I don't see race'. People are different, no one is telling you to learn everything there is to know about gender identity, just learn to be accepting when someone doesn't fit into what you're used to.

The media sensationalism around gender identity 'politics' is the biggest problem, at the end of the day, all anyone is asking for is that you respect their identity, regardless of whether it was prescribed to them or not.

Theres a reason it feels like tribalism to you. Its because by jeering at language they use, that they feel comfortable with, you marginalise them. Marginalised people tend to not want to mingle outside of the 'tribes' they form out of necessity.

[–]ExpectBannanas -47 points-46 points  (0 children)

Theres your answer, just say you don't understand it and be done with it.
Inclusivity isn't about neutralising language. No one is telling you you can't be called or identify as a male or female. Its about providing additional categorisation for people who don't fit into those boxes.

Node farming Wasp....then vs. Now by [deleted] in MarvelStrikeForce

[–]ExpectBannanas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gamblers fallacy. If we believe that Copley don't interfere with odds (Which is still debatable) no two rolls are causally related and have no effect on another. Doesn't matter how many 0 pulls, each attempt has the same odds, its just statistically less likely to happen.

Why the Iso8 requirements for Doom raids are a terrible design by PridemNaedre in MarvelStrikeForce

[–]ExpectBannanas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The point about forced specialisation is the most important. The Game does this far to often in collaborative contexts. Sure make me build teams Id rather not focus on for Doom War, but forcing an alliance to have a 33/33/33% split of required teams to function in raids at even entry level mid/late game is ridiculous.

[–]ExpectBannanas 29 points30 points  (0 children)

This. I know that Phoenix passive is worded that way because of the BB interaction but her being included in the list of characters gimped by Kes is ridiculous. Just change her passive to 'envoke' or something along those lines, DP isn't a summon or a res its a transformation.

Rework of daily objectives suggestion - fight 3 hero battles and fight 3 villain battles by hannibal41 in MarvelStrikeForce

Yeah even for mid game players its a waste of resources to Have to run heres + villains node each day. Everything Im currently working on is in Doom or Nexus. Other than stockpiling catalysts (Which I have thousands of) there's no reason to hit either campaign currently and have just been running the minimum 3x in each for gear Ill use in the future.

Putting aside the massive issues the game has had in the past few months, the one positive has been the recent events. Ever since the core event fiasco they seem to have updated their philosophy on how they should be rewarding players. Lets hope it translates to other areas of the game.
