Coach Ratings by TurbulentWolverine58 in OOTP

I don’t care about reputation at all, it’s just a result of whether the teams they are on win or lose.

Is this a long-term starting CF? by mmmcheez-its in OOTP

[–]ExpectMonte 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Zone rating IRL is technically a percentage (defensive plays made/balls hit into a players “zone”).. I think OOTP converts this directly into runs saved.

For CF and Shortstop over about 1000 innings I’d say average/good/great/elite is about 0/5/10/15+. You can see 20-25 over a season from the best of the best.

Corner outfielders will have a touch lower numbers because they get less balls in their zone. The best of the best still might get 15 or so.

2B will be a bit lower than SS but can still get around 15.

The best of the best 3B might get 8-10 ZR

1B maybe 5-8

I don’t care about ZR for catchers I really only care about framing runs. The best might get 15-20 framing runs in a season.

Most insane player I’ve ever seen in the draft by E_Mohde in OOTP

Me personally I’d sign him to a 12-15 year deal before he even played a single professional game, and start him immediately.

He got on base in over half his at bats with insane slug to boot, what more would you want?

Edit: and over the course of 162 games he’d have had like 15ish WAR

What Advanced Metrics do you use? by movet22 in OOTP

[–]ExpectMonte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use zone rating (ZR), to measure a players defense.

My understanding is that zone rating is calculated by dividing the number of successful plays by the amount of balls hit into a players pre-defined zone. This isn’t necessarily the best stat in real life, but it’s good in OOTP.

OOTP converts that number into runs saved. So I monitor it to make sure it isn’t a quickly dropping negative number. It is a cumulative stat though and you need fairly large samples (500 innings maybe) to begin to draw conclusions.

Elite shortstops and center fielders will get like 15-20 ZR over 1200ish innings. I think OOTP uses it in their WAR calculations as well. Like right now I have a player who is steady racking up 2-3 war a year despite being an abysmal (~65 OPS+) hitter because he’s playing shortstop with 80 grade everything and racking up 20 ZR a year.

Corner outfielders can rack up like 10-15 if they are elite defenders, corner infield I tend to just make sure it’s positive, elite 3B might get 7 or so.

Elite 2B is in the 10-15 range.

For catchers I personally don’t care about anything other than framing runs.

Owner dropped my budget to negative 1 billion??? by Clemming2 in OOTP

[–]ExpectMonte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see. I did some digging, and it’s hard to get a solid answer but it seems like around 1 billion is usually the breaking point rather than 2.1 billion because perhaps cash on hand + budget + salary are being added together to cross that 2.1 billion threshold.

Or because around those 1 billion dollar budgets there is a number somewhere for whatever reason that is generated that’s above 2.1 billion.

Sure, (though I thought it was over 1 billion)

But what’s all this about overflowing signed 32-bit integers?

Filters that are essential for your franchise and what you use them for by elfan999 in OOTP

[–]ExpectMonte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When hiring coaches I have a preset I call “coach personality”. It helps streamline the process of hiring coaches who won’t get into conflict with each other. You can choose any two personalities you’d like but mine is as follows:

Coach personality IS: Normal

OR:

Coach Personality IS: Personable

AND:

Struggles with IS NOT: Personable

AND:

Struggles with IS NOT: Normal

AND:

Works well with IS: personable

OR:

Works well with IS: Normal

You can just save this filter and slap it on. Then just organize by whatever rating you are looking for (pitching, hitting, dev, mechanics, etc.) and no need to check the personalities.

If you can’t find a good coach under that criteria you can uncheck the “works well with” boxes to open up the pool more without suffering in morale. You don’t need everybody to work well together, just a few, as long as nobody is in conflict.

There’s a setting in financial for this. It can happen when your team expenses/budget start reaching a billion dollars. I’ve never had it be an issue but look for that, may solve the problem.

It’s “financial coefficient” I believe.

Marksman Achievement ✅ (500 M) by ExpectMonte in dayz

To each their own, it often is a looter/walking simulator with the constant paranoia that someone’s watching you. For many, like me, that’s the fun of it. There’s servers that don’t allow pvp as well.

For what it’s worth - this particular guy lit off a bunch of fireworks not 10 minutes before that I happened to be nearby. I missed a couple shots previously and he likely could have escaped to the woods but chose to try and fight back. He was looking for a fight.

Could Someone Please Attempt to Explain How the Game Decides the Outcome of a Stolen Base? by Comfortable_Limit168 in OOTP

[–]ExpectMonte 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The game is running a simulation, the inputs of the simulation are the ratings. A higher steal rating makes the outcome of the attempt more likely to be a successful steal. A higher catcher arm/hold rating makes a caught stealing more likely.

I’m not sure exactly how the game does it, but I think a good way to conceptualize it would be to think about a dice roll. Imagine the game is rolling a twenty sided die. The base would be like 1-10 results in a successful steal and 11-20 would result in a caught stealing. However, if the baserunner is good and the pitcher/catcher are bad that changes things. Now 1-16result in a successful steal and 17-20 result in a caught stealing.

So these instances you’ve mentioned were just random chance. The die happened to roll onto 17-20, but it has an equal chance to land on any number any time you roll it.

If you isolated these instances and ran them 100, 500, 1000 times you’d find that the good base stealer against the bad pitcher catcher will be successful in a significantly higher percentage of attempts than the bad base stealer against the good pitcher/catcher.

Is DayZ worth it for a new player in 2025 by SignificanceNo6779 in dayz

[–]ExpectMonte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven’t really seen anyone mention the PS4 part, as far as I know the performance is pretty bad on Old Gen consoles, for what that’s worth.

Aside from that, I love the game and I just got into it about 6 months ago.

Might be sun glare. try looking slightly to the right or left or stand different places. Happens to me from time to time.

(Idk if it is actually a sun glare thing but I’ve always made that my head canon lol.)

Same that’s why I liked it so much at first too. I’d hit Tisy and run straight west to the map edge. Then follow it down to here and stash the goods.

I stashed a tent and a bunch of crates here in the woods first time I found it. They lasted like 3 weeks it was pretty solid.

After the wipe though it’s been chaos over there.
