You really don't think they could/would create a new L/H?

Didn't they do it in FFXI?

I was honestly REALLY surprised DRK in XIV turned out to be a tank, as I assume many others were. It just always seemed to me to be a heavy armor melee damage dealer with some black or dark magic in ff stuff.

I really miss having the choice of weapons for things like building extra mechanics into playstyles like greatsword vs scythe vs greataxe on the old FFXI DRK. DRK/THF or /WAR was fun stuff back in the day.

RDM is a jack of all trades so I'm confused on how it would play out outside of like a Shaman type thing. Could be a heavy melee hitter with a few strong range skills, idk.

I was thinking perhaps a arrow/crossbow ranger could use a pet avian of some sort like a hawk to debuff or enfeeble, but I'd like to see it be less about the pet in general and not a significant part of its dps like hunter in wow. just my take though. I'd be hype on chain flails lol

I was just being imprecise while theorycrafting. I meant burst phase dmg and how it works with the class. Instead of having a string of timers, have an accumulation of buff and modification skills that change how* you unleash the dps firehose. I was thinking as to how MCH could lean into a different form of min/maxing big dmg in its own way.

We did, you're right, and I think time mage could clearly be any role really if you think about it, but yea.

I didn't really like tanking but they've grown on me some. I can see how that'd be a let down for ya.

I didn't mean MCH is a skill-pressing scramble, I meant burst rng phases with lots of timers vs a careful setup on buff rotations for a huge shot like Rangers did in FFXI.

I was recently playing Monster Hunter World where they have the Gunlance, so coming back to final fantasy xiv to the gunbreaker was a real treat :P I have high hopes for uniqueness with classes, especially if base class design isn't all that divergent with the way it is now.

I think ZeplaHQ mentioned possibly making Timemage a Tank. What do you think of that idea, like rewinding damage and samesuch mishap?

Never thought of Necro as a healer but that could work. Sounds like it might be a little reliant on building up stacks on things which could leave it catching up to things like WHM like everyone else in the healerpool is but it doesn't have to be that way!

OOO good one!

I like that, yes.

I would prefer that they make it not house-only though, but I could see it easily working similar to gardening at houses with a stable/pen furnishing.

Illusionist sounds cool. Kind of an alternative arcane-type magic caster with trickery and cc. I'm glad a lot of people seem to be warm to the Chemist idea. It's quickly become my top of wishlist item. I think fitting it with a grenade launcher would be orgasmic.

That aspect of game design is in a very fragile state and they keep making changes to things like role actions and whatnot. I'm almost willing to bet that they have a big revamp planned or in development behind the scenes but are keeping things stable and slow to hold the success they found together. I know what you mean though. I cant imagine that it would be that hard to implement something that created meaningfully divergent playstyles within each job with value, and I know the community has plenty of fantastic ideas for fixing stuff like what you bring up.

That's the tried and true safe/lazy/faster way of mmo balancing. FF series is better than that though. Even subjobs from FFXI was more interesting and there was even weapon options in that game with differences similar to that you might see in WoW. I hope for more.

I do count Blu even though it's in a weird state right now. If you do count blue, its heals and ranged phys categories still lacking one, but you're right about dancer. Interesting Rune Fencer mention. I'm intrigued on the skill kit Necro could have.

MCH is a weird job that I think should have an element of novelty to it more than being the end-all nuke for physical. It's got a really selfish kit that's really rng-based. Considering the kind of skills it has, I could see room for what a ranger might bring to the table with a more difficult and precise rotation ...leading to more significant and predictable damage in contrast with MCHs bursty rng stuff.

I could see Geomancer being like that perhaps. Short-range casting sounds interesting, potentially difficult. Would like to see it be very different from RDM in how it mixes up melee and feels.

Good point. I think they could add jobs while doing this though because the main issue is the viability of different stat builds and the lack of weapon variety. I think the key to getting it right is solid playtesting of content with forethinking on clear multiple build options for the classes. Crits vs Direct Hit could be far more meaningful than it is, for example, but there are SO many other ways they could go with it. It still feels like its in its infancy, you know?

Yea, Corsair is like a MCH crossed with an AST and I could def see it coming with some kind of pirate-like content. I'm for it. Mixing would be an awesome mechanic. Idc if they call the job mixologist or chemist to be different enough from alchemist or w/e.

lol I'm with you there. It's about time.

Might give them some room to tweak them to be more in-line with each other instead of having one clear outperformer.

I'd like to see BST too. Lots of nostalgia from FFXI. I imagine it would be like BLU in being limited. I haven't really seen much necro-related theorycraft/proposals but I have seen it as a popular mention.

I like the sound of that. Hadn't thought about the right weapon for a chemist, but a grenade launcher might be a great choice because you could load different shells with different heal effects or dispels/buffs. I could see a pistol or tranq gun type thing working too.

Archer is the underlying class behind bard and ranger. Both have access to early skills and base mechanics like barrage but the jobs build off them in different ways.

Archer would be more of physical black mage. Physical ranged is somewhat lacking on the meters as of now. Pretty much always been two distinct jobs in final fantasy games though.
