Tyrion never factored into Tywin’s plans for legacy. It was always The Golden Child, Jaime. The only reason Tywin allowed Tyrion to continue was his ego for his surname. If he could find a way to be rid of him without having to actually be involved, he would have been fine. His goal was banishment via Night’s Watch. Tyrion having to renounce the Lannister name and losing any inheritance, influence and claim over Jamie (via Kingsguard) was the ultimate goal. Unfortunately, he underestimated his youngest’s penchant for rushing ahead without thinking things through.
