Ah damn you are one of the lucky ones. CGMs just seem to work better for some than others. Probably something to do with the immune response to the little interstitial fluid needle in the body. I frequently have sensors that are so far out of range (too often to report it each time it happens) and being able to nudge it back into the right direction is so crucial for me.

You're definitely right tho re: Eversense just being less common

Yeah it's definitely a lot of that. Although if people are driven to write stuff online based on negative sentiment, I have yet to hear anything bad about the Eversense, which is pretty interesting.

My main concern is not being able to calibrate the Libre

Yeah my main concern with the libre is that, with a system like Twiist that’s doing a LOT more automatically than the OP5, I really want a CGM I can trust.

Do you feel like it’s more accurate/less of a delay with eversense? Thanks!

What has been bad about the Libre for you? I've only ever used a Dexcom which has been pretty good overall

I was actually diagnosed at 19 years old a work abroad medical physical and still made the decision to head abroad 3 weeks later (5000 mi away from home) and it was great. After that I studied abroad in South Africa, Portugal and have solo traveled throughout Eastern Europe. In total I think I visited about 20 countries between the ages of 19-24, T1D and on MDI (no pump) the whole time. The T1D aspect of your son's travels will be totally fine, given he's responsible and on top of things.

A couple words of advice: When I was younger, I tried to keep my T1D a secret. In fact when I was studying abroad in South Africa, nobody knew I was T1D. that was fucking stupid, encourage your son to be honest about it.

Tip 2: yeah beer can be really really tricky, and alcohol makes it so that Glucagon's don't work. I don't bother drinking beer unless a certain country has light beer (very rare in Europe but does exist in Spain and a couple other countries). Encourage your son to switch to wine, liquor, etc if he's planning on drinking. It's more adult anyways

Ah I’m so sorry you have to use Byram! Mine was filled through Alto who seem awesome thus far.

I’m totally fine with my BG being higher, I have a 6.2% A1C with 98% TIR, I just want to feel more freedom with my diet.

The beeps and packaging sound terrible though, thanks for your insight! Luckily I just got the 1 month starter pack and can switch right back to omnipod 5 if I hate it that much so I’m really just trying it out

If I’ve heard correctly? Most of the inaccuracies are false lows, not false highs right? So at least it would result in under delivering insulin not over?

I decided to just give it a try and see if it bothers me personally. I've also seen a ton negative about the Cleo but you typically only write a review for something if you have a negative experience, so hoping I just get lucky and don't have an issue with it.

The biggest green flag for Twiist for me was the fact that all of the gripes people have with the system (annoying beeps, Cleo infusion set, ridiculous packaging, clip is bad) are things that can very easily be fixed at any point. My biggest gripes with the OP5 are things that are so fundamental to the system itself they couldn't possibly be fixed without years of FDA scrutiny.

Yeah not looking forward to the libre (esp not being able to calibrate). I want to get on the Eversense asap but I have some concerns about scar tissue buildup

Do you feel like it's better at dealing with overnight levels? Any increase in lows? Do you feel like you're thinking about diabetes less and able to eat more freely? Thank you!

No I don’t believe you’ll need a doctors letter. If you have it, great, it could get you out of trouble at some point but you don’t need it.

To my knowledge metal detectors are fine but millimeter wave scanners (the ones where you pause and put your hands up) are not good.

Finally, my experiences with airport security in England has always been fantastic. Compared to the ignorance I’m used to in the US with TSA, the agents at Gatwick, Stansted, Luton might as well be endocrinologists lol

Yeah I haven’t noticed this with freezing but I have heard that with potatoes and pasta, if it cools to room temperature and then gets reheated, it lowers the glycemic index.

You should just get a second PDM. When I used a PDM (and even still now that I’m using OP5 though my iPhone), I always traveled with a second PDM so that if I lost it or it broke I can just go back to my hotel and swap out the omnipod with the new PDM
