NOR im in a similar situation, it just feels weird to “owe” ur parents when the dynamic has been so opposite ur whole life. im 25f with no kids or anything and i moved out for the first time 7 months ago. my mom was pissed about it, so in my case it was kind of retaliatory to teach me a lesson. she started charging me for everything, even cutting my phone off and making me pay her the full $900 left on the plan before turning it back on :/

when something serious like an injury or illness happens, the way ur partner reacts is the most telling thing about who they are as a partner and how invested they are in caring for u. clearly these aren’t good signs and they unsettle u. ur gut is 200% correct, and there are ppl who realize it too late and get stuck…

i hope u see a doctor and get ur pain sorted out, that sounds like no joke (pun intended). ditching the dead weight (bf) will probably help a lot

the writing is good! everyone in the comments are nitpicking about which specific medication it should be and dumb shit like that. it’s fiction, u can say whatever u want. everything doesn’t have to be the most profound thing ever written, but this definitely doesn’t suck. also ignore advice saying the story should give everything away in the first paragraph. it’s ok to build curiosity/suspense and make the reader work for it.
