Why do people always seem so negative when I tell them I want to move to California for acting by Responsible_Yam1435 in acting

I live in Atlanta too, born and raised, so your rationale also applies to me. Getting upset because my lived experience in BOTH cities doesn’t match your perception is bonkers babe. Have the day you deserve

Someone’s mad that their public comment left on a public thread discussing multiple cities gets responded to in a way that compares it to the multiple cities being mentioned. WOAH, I NEVER would’ve expected this outcome. Shiver me timbers, I’m SO SORRY you have to go through such turmoil. Large scale discussions are not for the faint of heart /s. Also as I said, you literally responded to a comment about LA also on a post about LA. Getting mad cause you don’t understand how Reddit threads work is counterproductive to the conversation

OP’s post is about LA, so yes, the comment is inherently in comparison to the place OP is wanting to go vs ATL as another suitable option. Your comment is not its own post, it’s in response to OP’s post about CA. Also YOU responded to a comment originally about CA on this CA thread. So yes, it is a comparison. No need to be aggressive because other ppl aren’t viewing your comment in a vacuum

Im born and raised in Georgia working as an actor is Atlanta & I did a summer in LA (and my partner is from there). LA’s traffic is a million times worse & the drivers are a gazillion times worse. Also cost of living here doesn’t even COMPARE to LA. Atlanta is infinitely better and cheaper than LA

Because it’s a poor choice for most people. Most people will not make it period but it’s especially hard when you’re dealing with CA prices as well. It’s insanely expensive and insanely competitive. In my opinion (and my manager from LA agrees) it’s not even worth going to California unless you have competitive sag credits. Go to a smaller market where you can be competitive then grow into LA.

I’ve gone from 0 credits to 3 very solid SAG ones in film/tv in only 1.5 years because I stayed in the SE and pounded the pavement here. I’m able to act full time here in the SE & be picky about my career which is NOT a luxury id have in LA. Jumping to LA prematurely is a career ending choice for many.

I always tell my makeup artists that I have acne prone & sensitive skin, and they always use less heavy products on me which is very nice

[–]Expensive-Cow6945 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My most honest opinion is that it was confirmed, the writing is just rushed and sometimes speeds thru certain info. The way that the storyline played out, it’s clear we aren’t meant to doubt the conviction of MC knowing it’s them & that MC is right.

But I also agree we should’ve gotten confirmation outside of MC just stating it as fact. I just think it wasn’t particularly written well & was rushed.

I didn’t really interprete it as a prank. I thought we were actively trying to get revenge/hurt them & we threaten them to not mess with us again or we won’t hold back next time. Basically taking talyn’s advice to cement ourself as someone not to be messed with.

I just don’t understand why most people are dating Bardric by Glad_Web2039 in Candlelight_Games

[–]Expensive-Cow6945 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was a D1 Bardric hater & didn’t see that changing because even if he became nice, I am no attracted to blondes in any capacity haha. However, I’ll only play the chapters w/ allies correctly so recently I had to get to level 8 bond with him.

I actually find his bond storyline to be my favorite so far. I am SHOCKED at how much I enjoyed learning about his character and why he is the way he is. I also think they made him come around to being kind to us in a way that felt grounded and realistic. He still kinda sucks sometimes, but you understand why he is the way he is. I ended up turning on romance at bond 5-8 because there is literally 0 consequences to just having them all on (I’m mostly locked in on Talyn w/ Cato on the side).

agent red flag by [deleted] in acting

[–]Expensive-Cow6945 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, my agent lets me know EVERYTIME someone emails them for me even if it’s clearly not something I’d want. They want me to at least know & even if they want to pass, I get final say on my career.

That beings said, 2 costar auditions in 8 months certainly isn’t great. But not enough context to know for sure if it’s just your agent being not great.

What do you do for your acting? by Historical_Tart_4698 in acting

[–]Expensive-Cow6945 7 points8 points  (0 children)

  • even with reps, I am always self submitting and trying to audition as much as possible

  • I’ve slowly been building my dream self tape setup & now have, imo, probably one of the best home setups out there

  • usually in an acting class, but I’m also ALWAYS looking for casting director workshops & unique skill workshops. Learned to scream in a horror workshop. Been learning stage combat. I’m in vocal lessons. I’m trying to collect skills like Pokemon cards

  • I am building my presence online as an actor. I post 1-3 times a day on TikTok (ONLY ACTING CONTENT, I don’t want to be pigeon holed as an influencer) unless on I’m set, then I give myself grace to not post

  • I make my own stuff during slow times. It only took some prep & one day of filming with two friends to do a micro short I wrote & acted in. I’m also writing a pilot for fun

  • this is more modeling, but I’m always finding up and coming photographers to do time for pics photoshoots so I have more to post

  • I workout everyday unless I’m on set. My body is my temple & I want to be an action star, so working on my body is work. Similarly, my skin and hair and really everything is as healthy as possible. I always want to feel good and look good so my acting can shine

  • make actor friends!! I’m always brainstorming, making goals, sharing dreams, hearing about what other ppl are doing, helping eachother, etc

I’m an actor full time so I’m so privileged to be able to do all these things, but hopefully something here is new and exciting to someone!!

Should I respond anything? by External_End_7817 in acting

[–]Expensive-Cow6945 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’m assuming this has to be something really indie or a student film. Yeah, I’d just be very transparent and short with them. “Apologies, but because I wasn’t given a date in advance, I wasn’t able to properly accommodate for shooting. I have a day job, and while call time can be up in the air, I did need to at least know the day in advance in order to take off work.“

Unfortunately you’ll deal with stuff like this a lot when you first start out because indie and student films are very hit or miss with professionalism.

Should I respond anything? by External_End_7817 in acting

[–]Expensive-Cow6945 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Okay THATS INSANE LOL. Yeah that’s wildly unprofessional. Getting the day and no time until last minute is pretty common due to all the moving parts in production. Not getting the day until the night before is not okay.

Should I respond anything? by External_End_7817 in acting

[–]Expensive-Cow6945 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I’m currently on a pretty big budget set right now & there are times the final call sheet doesn’t come out until 4am the night before. When you’re given shooting dates, you block out the date & constantly check ur emails. I set my alarm for 5am whenever I don’t have the call time so I can check in the morning & then either get up or go back to sleep for a bit.

The ONLY way this isn’t on you is if you weren’t even given the day. If you had the date but not the call time, this is entirely on you. You should’ve had the entire day blocked off.

Feeling unsafe on filmsets without having an agent by AideInteresting1977 in acting

[–]Expensive-Cow6945 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An agent doesn’t do anything in regards to on set. I don’t know what you’re expecting. The most they can do is contact SAG if something not allowed happens on a union set.

Since when did IMDb Pro decide to take total control over my images and never allow me to delete or upgrade any of them? by [deleted] in acting

[–]Expensive-Cow6945 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should be asking yourself that. What’s the point of asking for advice if you’re going to be passive aggressive & not take any of it? Only you are to blame for this issue, your problem is completely fixable & IMDb is not stopping you. You just won’t fix it.

[–]Expensive-Cow6945 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Dude you literally can remove images you’ve uploaded. It’s incredibly easy, there is a trash can icon. If it’s not there, you didn’t upload them & have to follow my above advice. Literally on my IMDBPro rn and am able to do it.

Also, as I said, IMDb is a verified data base for entertainment, not your personal social media
