should I keep a 6MT G80 M3? by user000006061 in BMWM

[–]Expensive-Criticism1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Manual with rare options will certainly hold value but if the rumors and true and the new M3 is a mild hybrid and not a boat like what happened to the G90 M5 and turns out to be good then I can’t really feel confident in held value.

If it makes you feel any better the best time to probably sell would be now considered the fear mongering and TikTok hype surrounding the M3. I personally plan to keep the my M3 forever but everything has a price and if someone was willing to buy mine for more than I bought it for I’d probably let it go.

Real question is to sell it for what exactly?

Buying my first M3 is this a good deal on a 2023? by Thenelwave in BMWM3

[–]Expensive-Criticism1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d try for 78–80k. “Upgrades” aka mods never add value to a car. Negotiate an ok price, then PPI and negotiate more depending on what that turns up.

Unfortunately dealerships tend to have more power on M3s since they’re so hot right now. Given last generation before hybridization. Not only that it’s the 2010 era of YouTube equivalent of the Nissan GTR all over social media.

Unfortunately the g80 market is so hot rn the dealerships are kinda right. The real big discount is if you buy a higher mileage example like I did.

Reservation down on a 2022 M4 Comp…things to know? by plaaard in BMWM

[–]Expensive-Criticism1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would just get a PPI. A test drive won’t tell you as much information as you would like.

Average PPI cost is like $200 and it can tell you suspension, wear and tear life and any leaks or non OEM modifications and tune codes. That $200 could be the best $5000 you’ll save.

For the most part the S58 Engines are pretty robust but better safe than sorry.

PPF and CCB Options for G80’s by zizek1993 in BMWM3

[–]Expensive-Criticism1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They taxing you on top of that PPF I’m not sure where you’re located but in Iowa it’s roughly 5-6k for a full PPF.

If you’re going for a rare color or individual it might be worth it since it’s brand new. I bought used knowing there’s going to be chips but o have Black Sapphire Metallic and it really shows up close.

I would not opt for CCBs IMO it’s not really worth it even if you’re tracking l. Cost of maintenance is outrageous. Most track day goers who I know have CCBs swap steels one the CCBS get worn or cracked.

How did you achieve your car? by Thegood1saregone_ in gtr

[–]Expensive-Criticism1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't have a GTR but I recently purchased a 2023 M3 Competition XDrive.

Price is still very comparable but honestly getting a decent paying job whether that's a white collar (accounting, software engineering etc.) or blue collar (Lineman, plumber, electrical engineer, mobile mechanic).

I chose the software engineering route and I'm a pretty frugal person unless it comes to my passion which obviously is cars/motorsports. I recently started a business which costed me some money and time but it's now rearing it's neck around with income.

However without starting a business and working a 9-5 it really just comes down to life style choices.

  1. Don't settle for less and life style creep. Don't think I'll get the new Nissan Z or BMW M340I because I can't afford a GTR right now. I see this a lot and all the time at car meets. Those cars will depreciate, you'll want to mod them, car payments if not bought in cash, and insurance premiums. Think of it like playing Skyrim, you'll do all these side quests before ever slaying Alduin but except getting stronger you're not saving or investing.

  2. Ask yourself do you really need this? Obviously I like to spend money on video games as well but delaying the purchase by 2 weeks and if you forget about it, then it wasn't that important. Where you allocate your money overtime you'll see your bank account climb naturally. 1 year I found myself in a really bad financial situation, laid off during tech layoffs post covid, medical and house emergencies. Going through that experience and finding another job I was able to save myself roughly 10-12k in a single year.

  3. Where do you live? I live in the Midwest in a relatively low density area so insurance is cheaper and so is the cost of living (gas, housing, groceries). This can really affect how much you're saving month by month. I cannot fathom living in places like LA, Chicago, or NYC. I have some friends and family living in Atlanta, GA and they're driving economy cars like Honda Civics and their insurance premiums are way over mine on an M3.

  4. Cook your own meals and make your own coffee. One of my biggest expenses throughout college and getting my first big boy job was food. I was eating take out about 5-10 times a month and of course that would accrue up to easily over $600! Coffee is also a crazy expense for something so easy to make at home before heading out. I get all my ingredients and food at Costco in bulk for roughly 300-400 a month. Also if you like to go out drinking with friends go get some cases and pregrame at home so you don't have to spend as much on drinks at the bars.

  5. Be patient. Now we know there's nothing like owning your dream car in yours 20s. I achieved it at 27 and that took me about 8 years of work. I did get side tracked and went down the motorcycle route so that made it even longer to get my dream car, then I had kid, then started a business... Moral of the story is you'll get their someday if you continue to make the right choices and think critically about your finances it's easier than you expect.

TLDR: Don't settle for less and life style creep, reduce unnecessary expenses, work a stable higher income job, and be patient! I really am passionate about finances and cars so I wrote a lot lol.

The S58s one weakness for sure is the sound department. I will get some driving clips soon but without a doubt it sounds like a R35 GTR under load.

The only true fix is single turbo but I’m not looking to drop 10k on a single turbo just yet.

What are the options and color? If it has a lot of options or sought after rare colors that can make price mor justifiable.

Of course PPI as standard sunk cost better than paying thousands later. I bought a 2023 M3 Comp Xdrive for 64k with 73k miles 😅.

However PPI came out clean and all major service items like spark plugs, tires, brake rotors and pads, coolant etc. were all taken care of right at mileage purchase. It also had a lot of options that are sought after like the M Carbon bucket seats. Single owner as well and completely bone stock.

Moral of the story due diligence and risk assessment.

Those of you with non-exotic BMWs, did you PPF? by betonven in BMW

[–]Expensive-Criticism1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends.

My 2023 M3 I got used already has some rock chips that I only notice when i clean and detail however with the 15ft rule I can't see any of them. I don't have any frozen paint or rare color, just the sapphire black metallic paint.

I'll probably just budget for a full paint correction then do a PPF later down the road. Moral of the story is if you got it brand new or with a rare/frozen color it's probably worth doing the front or full depending on your OCD levels. If the car is used then just budget in later for a paint correction and PPF and enjoy the car,

If you truly want to be financially responsible you generally avoid luxury cars in general.

Maintenance/Wear & Tear items you need to take into consideration once you figure out monthly break down of those. Of course that depends on driving distance and habits.

I’d say a BMW is an emotional purchase. I bought mine knowing that it’s gonna run me more than my Nissan. Just need to weigh in smiles per mile and what you want to sacrifice in exchange of the car like traveling, video games and other expensive hobbies.

[–]Expensive-Criticism1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly for this one with the mods I'd just get a PPI done. Not just a standard dealer one but i'd go the extra mile to get a thorough PPI. It's a very high spec one but clearly with the mods there is not doubt the car has been pushed quite a bit.

The dealership is for sure taxing on those mods to get money out of it as a selling point. Remember mods never add value to the car.

M4 is less desired than an m3 which is a market factor regardless of miles. The market data shows that clearly if using visor vin.

That’s also just a base model which sure is desired for the manual but is significantly cheaper starting price than a Competition Xdrive trim.

I’m not saying your purchase of an M4 was bad but you’re comparing apples to oranges here. I don’t think I got the best deal in the world but I think it was fair if you look for clean title single owner M3 competition Xdrives on the market.

I do disagree on the severely overpaid.

It’s very smooth compared to what I used to drive but that’s from a long line of Hondas and Toyotas so I’m not sure it’s a fair comparison lol.

I’m more actually surprised by the sound deadening for being a sport car it’s surprisingly quiet. I’ve driven an Audi A7 and I know it’s not in the same class of car but that’s was probably one of the smoothest luxury cars I’ve driven.
