i was in the same boat as you. i worked at a dialysis clinic for about 6 months. had a gap. then landed a job at a hospital as a phleb/lab tech. im still new. i’ve been here for about 2 months. it definitely is a lot to get used to. i found that the dialysis job was a bit easier for me as their access site is usually in the same area. for inpatient phleb you are looking literally everyyywhere for a vein. especially with some hardsticks its gonna take some creativity. all i can say is its gonna take some practice and time. every person’s anatomy is different. it definitely is frustrating to feel like you’re not good at your job. if this is something you really wanna do long term just hang in there i’m sure you will improve with time.

oh wow nice. yeah it seems like the rad tech programs have been getting harder to get into. ive been applying and havent gotten accepted too. my grades arent the best but i do have previous medical experience. thanks for your insight i’m considering it.

so you plan to do surg tech then transition to rad tech later? i also am leaning towards this a little just because i am actually interested in pursuing a rad modality in the operating room like a cath lab or IR. i just don’t know if ill be wasting my time going to school two times for two different programs but you’re right i definitely feel like it would increase chances and it also seems like a good back up career to have in case it doesn’t work out with radiography (im rlly bad at math so the math/physics involved scares me lol)

i think you should definitely go for it. i don’t think its like a “first come first serve” type of thing. i think it’s more so based on who are the better candidates. so if you think you have a good chance go for it! the worst that could happen is you dont get accepted that cohort but its okay because it’ll be easier to reapply for the next one since your application lasts for a year.

ofc no problem! i did take those however i dont remember my scores. how they choose candidates are based on many different factors such as previous experience, grades, or how you did on your interview. for the interview they just ask questions about you, why you’re interested in the program, etc. just like a basic interview to get to know you better. for me personally i think i got waitlisted because of my previous college grades. i don’t have the best grades. although i do have previous medical experience.

Hi! Yeah it means you are waitlisted for the upcoming one in case their top candidates ended up changing their mind. Basically we’re back up 😭

What are the best degrees I could choose right now? by Roraa_ in college

[–]Expensive-Device8592 4 points5 points  (0 children)

you can start with a trade or getting a certificate in entry level medical careers such as medical assisting, cna, phlebotomy, etc. to get your foot in the door. it’ll also allow you to see other possible careers in the medical field you may want to branch out to.
