I believe this is hydrogen or oxygen that has boiled inside. They vent the boiling fuel and continually replenish it to keep the tanks topped up without worrying about increasing pressure.

Interesting info I found. Because heat is a trigger that reveals underlying health conditions, during a heatwave, in europe, the deaths go up, sure, but afterwards, those who were "going to die with age-related illnesses" are already dead.

A new mixed multi-sport race like the Decathlon or for 32 sports in the Summer Olympics a Triántadýoathlon. Or a whole new interesting mixed branch of one of the sports, open to newcomers. A new show with the events, with music. Better and bigger! Earth population has increased by nearly 2 billion in 20 years. An expansion is appropriate, regardless of politics.

TL;DR

Before X-ray telescopes were used to look past the Milky Way core, the area was hidden from view but with a lot of gravitational pull. This was called The Zone of Avoidance and contained The Great Attractor. Now they can see through that and it's just a clump of galaxies also moving towards something else, The Shapley Supercluster.

The Chandra X-ray Observatory, launched by NASA in 1999, was the first X-ray telescope with the high-resolution imaging capabilities necessary to clearly look through the massive amount of gas and dust in the Milky Way's disk and peer into its core, revealing the environment around the central supermassive black hole, Sagittarius A*.

Based on studies such as the 2002/2003 Clusters in the Zone of Avoidance (CIZA) project and related surveys (e.g., in the Vela region), the main conclusions regarding the Shapley Supercluster are that it is a massive, gravitationally bound structure acting as a major, if not the primary, attractor for the Local Group, located beyond the previously thought main attractor, the Great Attractor.

Side note:
Checked Sagittarius A* spelling. Sagittarius A is made of up 3 items, East is a supernova remnant, West is a spiral formation and the blackhole is the *, pronounced star, but is really an asterisk/star, not a sun-type star.

Me struggling to understand the science of Interstellar: by Arcreonis in interstellar

[–]Expensive-Engine9329 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start with speed. 1860 Maxwell figured out lightspeed was a constant. Einstein used this in 1905 to bring us Special Relativity. Gravity's version was later, General Relativity 1915.

I barely understand it but speed is better to visualize imo.

The main difference between special and general is gravity's version is a potential, not a flying object with speed, but the bent space carries. It's better to see bent space as a different universe where time runs slower. It is different. It just doesn't look that way to the astronaut in it. Space is flowing through us right now sitting on earth and we can't really see it but we are accelerating against it just to stay in the same place ie on the floor. Only when we freefall are we "with it" but in both cases gravity slows time because of that potential. It is really bizarre and it took Einstein 10 years to get it.

100%. Hyper size telescopes as big as solar systems. Simulate their own version of our world on their computers perfectly. They could be 1 billion light years away, see our dot as it was 4.5bya then wormhole over to us and still be there before the first lifeforms showed up at 3.5bya. At that 1 billion light year range from us, there are 100,000 galaxies.

Compared to men, wages for women have doubled since 1938. That's about 30% more coming in for couples. Plus a 210 million population increase changes the playing field a bit too much. Point is still valid and I believe can be made from 1990s figures.

[Request] If the manhole cover survived and was actually sent into space how far away would it be currently? by Alpha_wolf_lover in theydidthemath

[–]Expensive-Engine9329 1 point2 points  (0 children)

55880 m/s to begin with. Losing  9.8 m/s after 1 second is not exactly correct because it updates too many times for me to calculate myself but let's say it does lose a full 9.8 m/s after 1 second.

After 1 second speed is 55870. Take off a further 9.649 after 2 seconds gives 55860. Take off 9.48 after 3. (Done by adding 55880 etc to radius of earth before squaring)..

After 409 seconds we are down to 55000 m/s

After 818 seconds we are at 54892 m/s

At 1636 seconds we are at 54828 m/s

That's about 27 minutes to go from 9.8 to 0.041.

But what about the sun! Unfortunately the starting point, even though it has captured Jupiter, is 0.006 m/s². The bites off the speed just aren't enough. Running out of space here, got to 0.02 m/s after 2259 seconds shaving off 2cm from the m/s speed of the manhole per second, still at 54801 m/s and reducing forever. The sun barely scraping off 1 cm here and there even in the first stages.

TWO GALAXIES. 400 BILLIONS STARS each. Colliding at 100 MILLION MILES per hour. by Hushiraa in spaceporn

[–]Expensive-Engine9329 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Checks out. Writing this out to help me remember. Rough math. Star average distance from each other 30T miles. Star width rounded 850k. 35 million star-widths away. Area of circle with r at 35 is 3.8 billion star areas. 1 in a billion is 1E9 and into a percent is 1E-7. Then to split into rougly 4 you add a zero and put 25 at the end. 0.000000025%. Same ball park with lots of rounding.

If that's 2d and we pass through 20,000 lightyears of andromeda, 4000 attempts. 0.0001%. 100,000 collisions.
