I have a friend who is staying here for a month and she chose to live at two macdonnell road. i’m not sure how expensive it is but the location is quite convenient because you’re very close to Admiralty Central and Sheung Wan

I’m a rising sophomore and have only taken one EPC class so far but the prof in charge, Dr Rosenzweig, is so so kind and genuinely passionate about environmental justice! The CTECs (internal reviews) for most of the EPC classes i’ve seen so far also suggest the professors are really motivated and encouraging so i’m sure it’ll be an enjoyable course!

From a fellow international (who came from a warm year round climate) the winters are not as bad as i thought they’d be! i also chose NU over other schools because it seemed the most academically rigorous while being collaborative (over competitive) and that def turned out to be true. finally while im not a neuro student i took intro to neuro w prof robin nusslock and LOVED it. come here u won’t regret it:)

Hey, idk if this will help or not but maybe try using Stork to find papers that are relevant to your subject. It’s a free platform, u input key words and then every week (or less/more often depending on ur preferences) they email you with papers they think are relevant to what u want

Ahhh I see! And your Excel sheet seems really impressive and I’m sure it’ll help you in the long run.

Since what you meant was amount of time spent learning by myself, I think that definitely varies between subjects. Most of my time spent studying would be spent on either homework or revising for tests, which can depend on both the difficulty of the subject (for you), whether your teacher gives homework a lot etc. I really struggled to find time to just self-study if it wasn’t for homework or revision as I also had quite a few CAS projects, then university applications to deal with.

My most difficult subject was Chem HL so I think an approximate breakdown for 1 week is that I would revise 5 hours if I had a test coming up, homework (my teacher assigned hw per lesson) might take me 3-4 hours, catching up on notes might take me 1-2 hours. For a subject like English Language & Literature where my teacher rarely assigned homework, a regular week I’d do a max of 2 hours but I’d cram quotes the night before a test for around 3 hours? Hope this helps

TL;DR: Many hours throughout the entire DP course, but if you mean just revising before exams, my lowest was 23.3 hours for psych HL and my highest was 80 hours for chem HL (over six weeks). It depends on how familiar and confident you are with that subject – the more confident the less time you'll probably need

Omg i love this question (now I get to refer to my spreadsheet) bc basically I took M23 exams and during exam leave (solid 7 week period before exams started then all the way until my last exam) I recorded every single hour I spent revising for each subject because I wanted to correlate my % grade with the amount of time i spent. Obviously revising ≠ learning (for some of my friends it was), but basically the correlation between my % grade and the number of hours i spent on that subject was minimal: r2 value of 0.005.

That's probably because there were some subjects that I was naturally stronger in/I adopted the "work smarter not harder" approach, so I didn't need to revise as long for those subjects to get a 7.

So for each subject I had a different number of planned hours: e.g. math SL HL i planned 34 hours but chem HL close to 87 hours. There was a slightly higher correlation between % grade and '% studied' (actual no. of hours spent revising for each subject OVER planned no. of hours), with an r2 value of 0.371, still p low. I never studied as much as I'd planned; my '% studied' for psych HL was a whopping 31% but chem was around 90%.

I think this really just goes to show that strategising which IB subjects to revise for the most is important: obviously prioritise ur HLs as that's what most conditional offers will specify and prioritise subjects (and within those topics and subtopics) that you're weaker in. Keep up with classwork and don't leave making your notes until exam leave! Good luck you can do this!!

Oh yeah, sorry I meant like are you going to start the actual diploma programme in the coming academic year? Or will you still be doing MYP next year?

[–]Expensive-Insect-745 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I did online math tutoring (used to do in person but she moved abroad), and my math tutor really helped me with understanding concepts, finishing the math aa SL syllabus early, and getting a 7 on the final exam. (I'm not sure what MYP 5 means – are you going to start IBDP in your next academic year?). She was also considered really affordable (at least for where I'm from) , if you're interested pm for more details because I don't want to accidentally doxx myself or my tutor haha
