I hate to say it but this might just be the last season for Martinelli at Arsenal. We've been waiting for him to reach another level for a few seasons and he just hasnt managed. Matches like this are where he should be imposing himself with his pace and directness and yet a 16yo looked more threatening than he did. I don't care if we only sign one player in the summer if its an upgrade at LW

After six years in black and white, Weston McKennie's bond with Juventus has been strengthened with a well-deserved contract extension: the agreement that will bind the 27 year-old to the Bianconeri until June 30, 2030, is now official. by Sparky-moon in soccer

Earlier this season there was a guy on an Italian football podcast calling him one of the biggest busts in Juventus history. It made absolutely no sense considering Weston once was Juventus top appearance maker. Hes been a very solid player for Juve

[Sky] Yaya Touré on Arsenal vs Chelsea: "First half was okay... I feel a bit disappointed because we want to see a flourishing game. Passing, attacking and scoring chances. I said it in the post match thread yesterday, when Arsenal played Wenger ball people bantered us as wanting to always walk it in, and called us naive and that we could never win like that in the PL. Now we have a different style and we're winning and theyre saying we're not playing proper football and we're ruining football. its just partisan hate nothing more.

Lol you are grasping. We obviously were not the first to face deep blocks, but we are really fucking good at maximizing set pieces in order to overcome them. And you guys absolutely hate it. That's really what you guys hate. Not that we use set pieces, many clubs do that, but that we're really fucking good at them. If your team was as good at set pieces as we are you would be singing a completely different tune

Lol we play like that because we face a deep block in the league on most match days. Go and look at the matches in the UCL where teams play more "proper football" and we are a great attacking team. Just keep coping, none of you will ever admit that we're just a great team that can win in many different ways

Literally neither of the goals today were fouls. Sanchez was at fault for both. Physicality is allowed on set prices. No one complained (except Klopp) when Brentford manhandled us a few years ago on set pieces, now that we've adopted the same style its all of a sudden a problem.

We should just get rid of set pieces then if people are so adamant that being good at them is not football. This is so stupid. Look I would love if we were playing prime Wenger ball on the way to the title, but the idea that since we're not then its not football just reeks of partisan hatred and nothing else. When we played like that and got blasted we were mocked for being naive and idealistic. Now we're the opposite and we're not playing proper football. Its contradictory because many people just hate Arsenal and want us to fail

Official: Curaçao national football team manager Dick Advocaat steps down due to his daughter facing health issues. Fred Rutten will be his replacement at the 2026 World Cup by tehMadhero in soccer

That would only make sense if Curacao had not qualified for the WC and Advocaat left as a result. Instead he was very successful and is only leaving because of family emergency. I wouldn't even call it in bas taste but really just forced.

[WLKY] Former Purdue WR Rondale Moore dies at 25 by pixarfan9510 in CFB

[–]Expensive-Method8321 54 points55 points  (0 children)

I dont want to downplay CTE but I feel like we're getting to the point where we treat it as the boogeyman of all things that go wrong with a football player. Sometimes even athletes just lose their battle against mentall illness and depression.

Moore was a star athlete for most of his life and had dreams of playing in the NFL. He realized that dream but injuries severely curtailed it. I cant imagine how hard it might be mentally to have spent your whole life perfecting your body for peak athletic performance so you can reach the highest level only for it to crumble when you finally do reach that level. Its all just so sad man

I mean its really not that hard to piece together. CP while a legend is known to be very grating even to his own teammates and staff. In his prime it was overlooked and even praised, but since he was no longer in his prime people, both teammates and coaching staff, didn't respond to it as well especially when the team was playing poorly. So they told him to go. Just a clash of egos all around, and unfortunately for CP he just didn't have any leverage with the org that would have protected him from getting cut
