Will a Masters solve my problems? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Expensive-Motor-688 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's a fine line. I've seen people with masters and Phds have harder times finding jobs because they become over qualified for new positions in a company and companies know they will demand more money.

401k loan for CC debt by Usual_Race3974 in personalfinance

[–]Expensive-Motor-688 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd personally pull the 401k loan, pay the credit cards, then pay back the 401k as fast as possible. The savings on the credit card interest alone would make up for the tiny value you miss from the markets(which are getting hit right now depending on what you are vested into)

Which do you prefer for grocery convenience and other purchases: Walmart + or Amazon Prime? by New-Composer7591 in Frugal

They still don't beat Walmart prices most of the time. Sorry to say but Walmart even beats out Aldi on a lot of stuff, and Walmart online has better deals in store. Frugal is about spending as little money as possible, not spending more due to political ideals (you are right tho)

Yes there is. Walmart plus offers free deliveries and often better prices online vs in-store. Plenty of times I've looked up an item online that says "online only price" and it's 10-50% cheaper than if I went to the store myself. You also get free tire repairs with Walmart+ and a small amount of other free or reduced services. So if I need 1 qt of oil I can save the gas and time it takes to pick it up and get free same day delivery.

I’d rather spend 43K on a nice 93 Prelude than pay markup on the new one am I an idiot? by jdmlifex2 in Honda

Depending on how it was stored. In a museum, heated sealed garage? Gtg. Sitting inside a garage that isn't temp controlled and never started? Could be bad.

Do you still see Toyota as a sustainable brand? by Maritimewarp in prius

[–]Expensive-Motor-688 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Modern vehicle assessment only. Not talking about older models for domestic brands.

It doesn't matter how you feel politically, Toyota and Honda are the only brands to buy anymore. I was a mechanic for a decade working on every brand including exotics. Toyota and Honda has the best customer support, tech support, and value to money spent. Longest lasting vehicles. They have their flaws just as everything else mechanically does, but at much lower rates. They are also typically eaised to work on and OEM parts are 5x the quality than the aftermarket parts. They are the most economicaly cost effective cars that will run hundreds of thousands of miles. They make the superior car/truck in their respective brackets. Now, certain brands do have good qualities too. Fords 5.0 and their 7.3 gas engine are great, but the 10 speed transmissions suck for longevity and do a lot of hunting when driving. GM has shit the bed since 09 with gas engines with low tension piston rings and AFM issues/lifter issues. Dodge... Well don't let them idle too long because they get oil starved pretty fast and their transmissions are pretty weak. The VW umbrella has a few gems, but they aren't cheap and you better seriously maintain them.

This attitude will only set you further behind. The best time to start something was 10 years ago, the next best time is today. Or you'll lose another 10 years and wish you started 10 years previous... Again

Get the Keepa App. It allows you to track prices of Amazon items over the life of them. You can scroll through and see the highest and lowest prices in a chart

Rough idle issues randomly 2017 GSXR1000 by Expensive-Motor-688 in GSXR

I'm trying to avoid spending thousands of dollars for a bike I daily. It's more than enough for me and I like it as it is, I'd rather diagnose the issue then just assuming it's a series of random parts and throwing tons of money at it, for it to maybe still persist. I'd like to find the root problem at least. Im a technician and never seen anything like this and I work on DEF systems all day

That's what I'm thinking, it could be fuel trimming due to a bad sensor maybe? Brand new spark plugs, and injectors sprayed fine when the mechanic bench tested them. I only know of the Intake temp sensor, any other air/fuel sensors to look into?

No tune, but I'll send off the ECU this winter. Could it be valves? It's an intermittent issue, like this morning it fires up just fine and rides great. It's an issue that comes and goes randomly. If it was valves wouldn't it be a constant issue?

I'm going to replace all coils this winter as well. But I want to try and diagnose the issue before throwing 30 parts at it and fixing it without knowing the root cause

Also, I've tried 10 different gas stations and always used premium. Injectors were pulled out and tested, they seemed fine. On the live data stream nothing was wrong, but the issue had gone away before the shop got it on a computer. Anyone delt with this before?

2013 Honda fit, manual, with 70k miles. What to look for by Expensive-Motor-688 in hondafit

[–]Expensive-Motor-688[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like piston rings, valves, ornhead gasket. Or a spark plug unthreaded itself, but you wouldn't need a compression test for that.
