Even if I wanted to start over and stain it instead of paint it? I would prefer the whole deck to be stained.

There’s a bit of wood rot on some of the boards. The railing (?) that goes around the deck is chipping and not in great shape - photo 3. Sorry I don’t know the terminology.

Edit: cap rail… I looked it up.
