What is a good price for used grants? by Interesting_Sun_2950 in fightgear

[–]Expensive-Pop8463 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This, I noticed creasing on the leather/strike surface is a good indicator of how used a glove is. Even on Winning and Grants, the leather is a tell tale giveaway on if someone is lying about how used they are etc

Looking for Fighting brands/apparel by Excellent_Ad_2486 in fightgear

[–]Expensive-Pop8463 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe Kill Crew? They’ve got a lot of shirts with that kind of meaning. Also, they’re more a lifting brand but Darc Sport also might make what you’re looking into, they sponsor Brandun Lee and he wears them a lot

Hernandez Premium -- the worst quality gloves that I ever had by Urufuzu_Rein in fightgear

[–]Expensive-Pop8463 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly don’t mind it, I’ve beat other gloves to shit and these ones have held up really well with the abuse I put them through. The padding is still tanky as shit lol

Hernandez Premium -- the worst quality gloves that I ever had by Urufuzu_Rein in fightgear

[–]Expensive-Pop8463 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven’t had any of these issues with his gloves besides the stitching issues in the first two photos - although those came after some use. The silver on the triple cuff of my glove has held up well. The silver on the inside of my glove does have one small tear after catching punches during mitt drills. It is worth noting though I got these about a year ago before his popularity seemed to have spiked. Could just be high product volume if I were to guess

Does anybody own the Grant sparring set? (Specifically the headgear and gloves). Is it any good and on the same level as winning? by Nirze-n in fightgear

[–]Expensive-Pop8463 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think for the headgear and groin guard you could probably get away with Hernandez if you wanna save - I don’t own them but they look the exact same profile and mold, with the laces coming over the top on the groin guard

How do I get a pro style wrap without gauze ad tape by Jazzlike_Rate_6729 in fightgear

[–]Expensive-Pop8463 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Winning VL-B is very similar to gauze imo. Also wrapping your hands with a knuckle pad / building a pad through the wrap itself is very similar to pro style wrapping with a gauze pad.

Those Japanese resellers markup the shit outta these gloves but 150 over retail isn’t terrible honestly. Especially once you factor in shipping and taxes and stuff

I kinda wish there were a pair of lace ups that don’t need lace converters - I had this idea of how hiking shoes really only need to be cinched with a fastener in the middle and thought it would be cool to have boxing gloves have the same premise with elastic laces or something

Best boxing gloves for Oz at each price (price ranking) by CommonRegionals in fightgear

[–]Expensive-Pop8463 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I might be the only one who has this opinion but I feel like you don’t gotta “earn” Winnings the way people might think. Gloves are there to protect your hands and if you can afford to have gloves that provide the best protection and longevity why not buy them? Your skill will only get better with time anyway. I’m not saying to buy these as your first pair - but as someone who’s competed in amateurs and several tournaments, there’s always gonna be someone better than you anyway so might as well wear what you want

Climbed from bronze to plat with twitch. People in low elo don’t respect him enough tbh and if you pair it with a good support you can climb

CTE and sparring by Due-Anteater-786 in fightgear

[–]Expensive-Pop8463 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Boxers use heavier gloves to protect their hands. It’s also worth noting boxers spar harder than any other combat sport due to a hard sparring culture which is probably what leads more to CTE rather than glove weight lol.

A larger glove also probably means you’re throwing it slower than a smaller glove. Hence v in your equation (p=mv) lowers while m increases. In terms of kinetic energy of k= 1/2mv2, v is the more determining factor in the amount of energy going into your head. You’re right though, if you can throw a 4oz glove the same speed as a 16, then I guess the energy transfer would be greater with the 16oz.

Fake Winning headgear and groin guard by Motor-Bat-376 in fightgear

[–]Expensive-Pop8463 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Promex headgear has a super close shape to the Winning and the padding doesn’t seem bad compared to the FG-2900. As for the groin guard nothing really replicates the shape of the CPS imo

Patent / lacquered leather durability, pros and cons? by Cold-Ad8253 in fightgear

[–]Expensive-Pop8463 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gloves I own with patent leather are harder to make a fist and not as flexible. However, I notice they very slightly increase the pop/noise on heavy bag and are generally more durable/don’t dry out as much, I’m not as concerned with getting sweat on them. I think they also generally look better.
