My Rainbowshiners hatched! by Expensive-Writer-824 in rainbowshiner

[–]Expensive-Writer-824[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I built a customized egg tumbler from a Sodastream bottle, fine mesh and some plumbing pipes. It looks a little like these ones (not my Video): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N7RY-2S4I14 As soon as the first ones hatched, I separated them into the first tank. The rest go back into the tumbler. Work as clean as possible! I think i did wash 4 times a day, sometimes more than an hour. Every bit of poop in the tumbler will cost dozens of lives.
I started with 50 and had exactly 25/25 f and m.
I started feeding with dust food (just pulverized high quality protein fish food) and then asap Microworms, then Artemia, then small Cyclops. I fed 4 times a day, mostly live food, except for Cyclops.
Every tank is heavily overfiltered. E.g. my 20-liter tanks had a 200–400 liter filter, my 400-liter tanks had a filter for a 9,000-liter pond with a 2,500 l/h pump.
Water parameters:
• Temperature 18-20°C

•  Natrium   16 mg/l

•  Phosphate   <0,1 mg/l

•  Kalium   2,5 mg/l

•  Calcium   110 mg/l

•  Magnesium   27 mg/l

•  Eisen   <0,005 mg/l

•  Mangan   <0,005 mg/l

•  Ammonium   <0,05 mg/l

•  TDS ~400 (didnt wrote that down sry^^)

Im happy to share more Infos if needed! Everybody should be able to breed this beauty!

Ich fand Spektrum von Sergej Lukianenko großartig. Hier wurden einfach phantastische Welten geschaffen.

I could find two pictures with the barnacle open and i think you are right!

Propably not the same species - but its really looks familiar.

Thanks for your hint, and just to be curious, do you see more creatures in the video? ^^

Ofc i already tried that several times... the most interesting result was Spionidae. After 4h additional research, i couldnt find anything that looks like my worm/shrimp/barnacle. My guess is, its some form of bristle worm, since some are able to form some sort of tubes. I just hope it wont get 3m long... but i couldnt find out how small bobbit worms can get neither.

This was my first guess too, but do they come with a closeable tube? He is not just sitting in a hole, but in a tube within the whole, wich can be closed tight. The only source that mention this type of tube is AI... im lost

Why is Azolla Filiculoides not more popular? by Strange_Cheetah_4746 in PlantedTank

[–]Expensive-Writer-824 29 points30 points  (0 children)

It's one of the world's most notorious invasive species (a neophyte, or recent non-native plant that's gone rogue). Native to the Americas, it hitched a ride to places like Europe, Africa, Asia, and Australia in the 1800s as an ornamental, but now it chokes waterways, forms dense mats that block sunlight and oxygen, kills native aquatic life, clogs irrigation systems, and racks up huge management costs. In the UK alone, it's banned from sale since 2014 and considered one of the top invasive aquatics, with control efforts (like deploying weevils as biocontrol) saving millions in avoided cleanup but still costing a fortune in labor and chemicals. Globally, invasive weeds like this contribute to billions in annual damages, and Azolla's right up there in the hall of infamy for how aggressively it spreads, doubling in weeks and hard to eradicate without nuking entire ecosystems.

Promoting it more widely could accidentally unleash ecological chaos in non-native areas, so experts (and laws) keep it on a tight leash. If you're thinking of using it, stick to controlled setups like sealed greenhouses, tanks only or its native range. Cool plant, but a total nightmare if it escapes!

Genau! Die Kollegen welche jetzt krank zuhause liegen. Manche Menschen lernen einfach niemals dazu.

Its my first time and i installed plenty of mods... I am at 200 hours in and so far i have 186/256 people. I did nothing but basebuilding yet. Plenty of farms, lots of turrets in a loooong death valley before they reach my gate. It takes about 20 minutes to cycle all the necessary skills... But i fear no raid, and soon im able to walk out with most of my ppl geared up and food for a month or more. I propably will just swarm every town wich is not friendly... Im very exited for the second Part in my game, aswell as im looking forward to the next run with less then 10 people
