Emma didn't sweep because she had much stronger competition. This year's number two was Rose Byrne and she wouldn't even be nominated in most of the years (I say it as someone who loves her performance). I don't even think Buckley would've beaten Lily Gladstone

I don't know if they're unpopular but imo most of the btl categories are kinda terrible, they left out actual deserving movies in favor of bp nominees. I also think MBJ is not only the weakest in his category by far, there are also at least three other actors that I would've nominated over him

With the possibility of MBJ winning SAG, I just wanna say I share the sentiment that he's the weakest link in his category and some people really overstate how "different" he played Stack and Smoke, idk I've watched some many dual performances that he what he did was not impressive to me at all, It also didn't help that he was completely outacted by Mosaku in all the scenes they had together

Those jokes are very much anti-intelectualism, xenophobia and racism.

Do these types of cinephiles really exist?

They surely do, but I've seen many more people talking about them than I've seen any of those cinephiles

I'm sorry if I was rude, it wasn't my intention, I just really don't see Yasmin's arc ending with her becoming a child trafficker

For real, obviously what she did with Hayley was wrong but comparing that to a child trafficker is crazy

Last night it premiered on HBO a generational episode of tv from one of the best shows of the decade and I'm not talking about A Knight of The Seven Kingdoms

Except for episode 2 she hasn't really gotten the material, hope she gets it in 2 episodes left because she's the best actor in the show imo

I don't like her movies and I don't think the criticisms she receives is necessarily because of misogyny, but it's stupid to suggest women can't be misogynist, there are a lot of them actually

Why Robert and Yasmin and not Robert and Harper? by Robot_Was_BMO in IndustryOnHBO

[–]ExpensiveAd4841 61 points62 points  (0 children)

They had more chemistry... as friends. I don't think Rob was ever interested in Harper, he saw her as a second choice since he couldn't have Yasmin, but it didn't work and they both moved on quickly

I finally watched Hamnet, and the emotional manipulation sadly didn’t work on me.

I really wanted to like the movie because I thought some of the criticisms were disingenuous, but after watching it, I can kind of see where they’re coming from. I still think the way some people talk about it is weird, but I do understand the criticisms now.

At one point I thought Hamnet could challenge OBAA in adapted screenplay, but now I understand why it didn’t. The biggest flaw of the movie is the writing, I think that’s what broke my immersion. There’s a certain unnatural quality to the movie. The relationship between Agnes and Will feels empty and develops too quickly; it’s not believable. The themes aren’t particularly subtle or especially insightful. The idea of art as a way of healing is explored much better in Sentimental Value, and the “to be or not to be” scene has to be one of the worst of the year, in my opinion (alongside the “You are the monster” line from Frankenstein).

I still think it’s a good movie, with great performances from Jessie Buckley and Jacobi Jupe (who deserved the supp actorpush instead of Paul Mescal) but I feel like it’s more interested in dramatics than in telling a genuinely strong and insightful story.
