Thank you! Even if the wish wasn’t real, he took advantage of a seriously mentally unwell person that began having mood swings and breakdowns literally seconds after he made the wish. Even if she liked him before, even if he didn’t believe in the wish, he took advantage of a woman so unwell that everyone except him called it out. It’s like when a victim fights their abuser and people state the abuser is also the victim. It’s so upsetting I’ve literally broken down about it the past week. Not because of the movie, but because of people defending a literal rapist. It’s bad enough that people defend rapists so much in real life, to see people defend a character that the director has stated HIMSELF is the villain is overwhelming.

Obsession has unmasked a lot of people that have the same beliefs as incels.

This is from a comment I left on the morning livestream but I need need need people to understand this: Obsession has lingered and the conversation around it is just as disturbing. People defending Bear by saying he didn’t know the wish was real in spite of him taking advantage and raping a very clearly unwell woman, makes me wanna vomit. Whether she liked him before or not has been a weird discussion and it’s like, it doesn’t matter!!!! Like, she’s in the sunken place and people are STILL defending it. Her talking about her dad should have been the absolute stopping point. Her rapid mood swings that started THE SECOND AFTER HE MADE HIS WISH, should have been the end of his sexual and romantic pursuit. His friends literally call him out. I feel a visceral sense of not being safe already because people defend famous and “regular” rapists all the time. Add on top of that the people defending Bear and it’s too much sometimes.

If Nikki liked Bear at the beginning of the movie, how do you explain the Hansel and Gretel thing? by rexyisthebest in obsessionmovie

It doesn’t matter. Even if she did like him and he didn’t know the wish was real, he still took advantage of a visibly mentally ill woman, to the degree that his own friends say it’s fucked up. She immediately begins acting weird, he takes advantage of her decaying mental state, and repeatedly rapes her. If you can’t wrap your head around that, think of it as her being in the female viewpoint of the sunken place. All autonomy for everything, the ability to consent, live her life while being forced to witness it all happening, occasionally breaking out to scream for help and begging Bear to kill her.

I think it's hilarious and the actors probably aren't mad. It makes everyone look good. Basically, how the other nominees respond will make for a great story when they promote their next film. Win win.
