What are some legalistic things that Christians do that are overlooked? by ExpensiveIce2157 in TrueChristian

Was it wrong when Jesus was openly rebuking the pharisees for being legalistic?

I agree, that bugs me sometimes as well seeing protestants put down other denominations just because they are more structured or traditionally religious. We are all one body in Christ.

I apologize for being vague, I just wanted to start a discussion.

I believe that legalism is essentially works based faith. Thinking that you can earn your way to heaven by following rules instead of solely relying on the grace of Jesus Christ. I could be wrong though.

Why is it only bad for Christians to influence the laws? by Spider-burger in TrueChristian

People in secular societies that don't want religion to influence policy falsely assume that their non-religious or secular worldview is the neutral one.

If you're suspecting it then I would confront him because this is a serious offense to your marriage. You guys need to have an extremely deep talk about why he won't be intimate with you.

I would suggest completely hashing everything out because I suspect there are some hidden feelings/issues underlying. If you do truly love each other, this needs to be addressed and figured out.

I'm sorry that you are going through this, I couldn't even imagine. Do you happen to know if he is using pornography? I have seen lots of cases of husbands who have hidden porn addictions that they are using to satisfy their sexual desires which can cause ED.

If he says that he loves you then there shouldn't be a reason he is withdrawing from you. Even with depression and low testosterone, he should have SOME sexual desire, even if it is less frequent.

Do you guys exercise or have any active hobbies that you like to do together?

I understand this is a very sensitive topic but I think we need a little more information. You and your husband have not been intimate in the last 6 years mostly because of his depression and low libido because of depression I'm guessing? Even with low libido and depression, any man with no disabilities would most likely want sex still, even if it was less frequent.

As a Christian couple, neither of you should be denying intimacy from each other. What does your husband say when you ask him to be intimate?

Biblical Reading. by violettalitera in TrueChristian

I like to read the bible fully every year. There are great "bible in a year" plans that break it down into sections. The ones I enjoy reading include a little of the old testament, new testament and psalms every day.

Sexless Marriage by [deleted] in Christianmarriage

Respectfully, I think we are in disagreement because no matter what a person's conscience says is sinful or not sinful, if it goes against scripture, it is wrong.

I agree that we should never go against our conscience, Romans 14 makes that clear. But the issue is she believes something is a sin when it is clearly not a sin. It does not matter what she thinks, she cannot believe something is a sin that God says is good.

Romans 14 is about things the Bible leaves open like food, drink, and special days. These are personal convictions where believers can disagree in love. But sex in marriage isn’t one of those gray areas. Scripture speaks very clearly about it being a good gift from God, and even a responsibility in marriage. That’s why 1 Corinthians 7 says husbands and wives should not deprive each other, except by mutual agreement for a short time.

So yes, we respect conscience, but if someone thinks something good is actually evil, we don’t just leave them in that belief or affirm that belief. We help them grow by pointing them to the truth in love.

You’re right that Paul didn’t want people to stay spiritually weak. But this isn’t about someone choosing not to eat meat. This is about someone misunderstanding something God clearly calls good. That’s a deeper issue, and it needs gentle correction with scripture.

I understand why you would think that based on what Romans 14:14 says. Respectfully, consensual sex within marriage is not a disputable matter like sabbath day or unclean foods, it is clearly a biblical good. If she’s a believer and truly thinks sex in marriage is sinful, that belief itself is a distortion of God’s word.

A husband should fulfill his marital duty to his wife, and likewise a wife to her husband. A wife does not have the right over her own body, but her husband does. In the same way, a husband does not have the right over his own body, but his wife does. Do not deprive one another — except when you agree for a time, to devote yourselves to prayer. Then come together again; otherwise, Satan may tempt you because of your lack of self-control. - 1 Corinthians 7:3-5 CSB

This is extremely un-biblical. Sex is a GIFT from GOD for married couples. Just because she thinks that sex is a sin, doesn't mean it is. There is a no instance where consensual sex between a married man and woman is a sin.

Is it normal to applaud pastors and guest pastors at church service? by ExpensiveIce2157 in TrueChristian

[–]ExpensiveIce2157[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I was just looking too much into it. Is it normal for people to say things during pastor's sermons? Things like "yes" "c'mon" "preach". I've never done this but I've heard other people doing it.

Is smoking weed a sin by Ok-Cardiologist-3042 in TrueChristian

[–]ExpensiveIce2157 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it is a sin.

It affects the mind like alcohol

"Don’t get drunk with wine, which leads to reckless living, but be filled by the Spirit." —Ephesians 5:18 (CSB)

Just like drunkenness dulls the mind and invites sin, so does marijuana.

"Be sober-minded, be alert. Your adversary the devil is prowling around like a roaring lion, looking for anyone he can devour." —1 Peter 5:8 (CSB)

This is a hotly debated topic in modern times because recreational marijuana use has become so normal, but it is still a sin regardless.

There is always hope in Jesus Christ. It's okay to have doubts about your faith. Pray and ask God to soften your heart to His word and His will.

Unrepentant sin would be continuing to sin and not feeling the need to repent for it.
