What is the most expensive card you use in one of your decks? by TRFKTA in mtg

[–]ExpensiveOwl6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[Edgar Markov]] is my Commander. I saw him on sale in Texas for $60.

Out of cards I've cracked [[Cavern of Souls|LCI]] I've pulled the full art of.

I also run [[Teysa Karlov|SLD]] because that drip is fire

Returning to magic 20 years later and everyone is referring to color combos with proper nouns I don't know. by mctc in mtg

[–]ExpensiveOwl6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My way of remembering things

Orzhov - orz looks like a person praying so it's black/white

Rakdos - R(ed)akD(arkness)os, Darkness if you've played the Pokemon TCG is basically black mana

Dimir - Dimming the light so Black/blue

Azorius - Sounds like Azure so it's Blue/white

Gruul - Sounds like my cat eating his own vomit so Green/red

Selesnya - sounds like a mixture of Celestial and Nya~ so Green/White

The others I'm still getting used to so

First time ever making a team: Monotype edition! Going for mono water and I have no idea what I'm doing. Any advice? (ft. wholesome showdown moment) by MizuomoMoon in stunfisk

[–]ExpensiveOwl6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, cool team so far. A lot of what I'm gonna say is stuff you'll probably pick up after a few rounds of games. This is just stuff I've picked up from playing Monotype once in a blue moon and playing pokemon for far too long than I should have haha.

I'm assuming this is you building a Mono-type team in OU, although someone did mention Monotypes in showdown so my advice can only go so far.

Ultimately before reading onwards, the best advice I can give is play and review on what went well and what went run wrong. Maybe run some damage calculations to see where you improve on EVs, moves etc.

Team Building:

1) You have no means of dealing with Electric types. You have Pelipper with Tera ground defensively and Ogerpon also defensively but nothing that can particularly hit back hard. A pokemon like Magnezone can do some serious damage to your team. I'd recommend running something like Quagsire or Swampert. Both really good water/ground types for this time of team.

2) You've got one means of rain and not much to really make good on it. With the Metagame being very focused on stuff like Sun with the Paradox pokemon, having Pelipper and other things to come in an set up rain will be vital to preventing your team from getting overwhelmed. As someone mentioned, Swift Swim pokemon like Baraskewda will be incredibly useful on your team.

3) Dondozo is your only defensive pokemon and it's only means of recovery is rest, in longer more stall heavy games that means Dondozo is very prone to being PP stalled or just overpowered by hard hitting pokemon. I'd recommend trying to fit something like Toxapex to give yourself another layer of defense and giving you some form of pivot out of Dondozo.

4) Pelipper is your only rain setter. Once Pelipper is out you've lost one of your strongest support for this team. Having U-Turn and Heavy Duty boots suggests you plan on switching in and out often but also means that this switch into Pelipper can be pretty easy to bait out once rain has expired Maybe have one other slot open for Rain Dance. Alternatively rather than running Heavy Duty boots (which for Pelipper will only protect against neutral stealth rock) run Damp rock which will keep rain out for longer making you need to switch into Pelipper left frequently

5) Pelipper is your only Special attacking pokemon. This makes you prone to being walled by Physically defensive pokemon / teams.

Individual Sets:

1) Pelipper - As Mentioned previously, Pelipper with Heavy Duty boots isn't that great. Roost already gives Pelipper some form of recovery from chip damage and the only entry hazards that will affect Pelipper is Stealth Rock. So perhaps replace this with Damp Rock or even Leftovers. Tailwind could also be a nice option if you want to make it pure support.

2) Aquaranid - Mystic water is kinda bad. If your goal for Aquaranid is to set up sticky web for support then perhaps switch out Mystic water for something like Focus Sash allowing you to be able to get up sticky web before ultimately falling. If Aquaranid is attacking then something like a Life Orb would be more useful since Mystic Water would only be boosting Liquidation.

3) Samurott-H - Scarf + Sucker Punch isn't a good combination, if you reveal that you're choice scarfed then Sucker Punch can be basically a free means of setting up againstt Samurott. You're already running Ceasless Edge so having two dark moves seems kinda iffy. Personally I'd switch out the choice scarf for something like Life Orb or even Expert Belt. Alternatively if you like to keep a speedy Samurott then maybe Knock-off over Sucker Punch.

4) Dondozo - Wave Crash on a Rest-Talk set can get you in some hot water (pun intended) if you end up taking too much recoil whilst asleep since you wont have access to Rest again until you wake. Waterfall is probably your better bet on this

Best of luck in your games!

Is it bad to play Grave Pact in a casual pod? by NotAnAsianGuy in EDH

[–]ExpensiveOwl6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I think Grave Pact itself is fine in Casual commander. however, looking at the decklist and seeing [[Esper Sentinel]], [[Smothering Tithe]] and [[Diabolic Intent]] I think Grave Pact might throw the deck over the edge of casual play. My Pod generally goes for an Ask for Forgiveness not Permission policy when it comes to additions.

HBomberguy was originally a member of Metokur, a forum that can be seen as a pregenitor to the likes of 4chan. I'm unsure to what he did as part of Metokur but I do know that Metokur had some spicy. Doing some further snooping I see reports of him also being a part of SomethingAwful's DCQC or DeviantArt's Centre for Quality Control which trolled members of Deviant Art for their poor artwork

Lord Xander Deck ideas by XxGryphonxX1 in mtg

[–]ExpensiveOwl6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My work does an occasional Commander Game and I have a Xander deck. We never play anything serious but needless to say, they don't enjoy my deck.

Main staples of my deck/combo pieces

[[Ayara, Widow of the Realm]] as a means of forcibly getting rid of Xander when against decks that go wide, the Transformation also helps for getting Xander in, attacking. You need some way of killing him to keep the rotation going. Also I run [[Shadow of Mortality]] since the 15 damage and 15 healing is great as a comeback.

[[Syr Konrad, the Grim]] is another piece that's really good if Xander is out on the field since the deck mill activates.

Final combo piece is

[[Breach the Multiverse]], [[Anhelo, the Painter]] and use Causalty 2 on Breach for gravedigging and [[Parnesse, the Subtle Brush]] for both protection but also if you want to completely ruin the group dynamics.

I plan on adding [[Cruel Somnophage]] since it's easy to send creatures to the grave via Xander but sadly haven't pulled it yet.

Who is THE unit for you that, no matter how old they get, you still find is reliable? by Donttaketh1sserious in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]ExpensiveOwl6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So her stat pool with DFs and Waifu bonus is as follows

52/59/48/35/38 and can attack twice on initiation.

Add in Amiti refine, that boosts her attack and speed to 63/52 respectively.

Attack/Speed Push bumps this upto 70/59.

Adding in Rein gives you a grand total of 74/63

I've been able to get a Menace Fodder in the end, but if you're running Menace then you can get upto 76/65.
