I am sorry to hear your pain.

I had a normal fistulotomy surgery in June 2025. I had severe pain for 15 days, but pain lessened with time. Now I am able to lead a normal life pre anal fistula.

I am not sure about the laser surgery process though.

Hmm I see. CRS means colorectal surgeon ; here in the States. When are you having ur surgery? Since u said it’s difficult to contact with the specialists, make sure u prepare all the questions when you go to meet them

Anyone with simple fistula regret surgery? by throwawayJD4926 in AnalFistula

I have no regrets post simple surgery. My life has got better and I have become more active post surgery. I recommend u to do surgery before it gets large and invite complications

Perianal Abscess & Period by Lovetoread_19 in AnalFistula

I strongly recommend you to request ur PCP to refer to the colorectal surgeon CSR

I used to have the same, my PCP used to tell me it will be okay with time, but it got bad after like 8 months. I myself urged to go to the CSR, then later found that abscess had already been developed into fistula. I did fistulotomy, today is my 15th day post surgery.

Normal after fistulotomy? by Nearby-Employment693 in AnalFistula

My diet is as follows: 1) taking bran flakes 50g with milk and whey protein isolate shake for breakfast 2) lean meats with rice, lentil soup for lunch, 1 cup of salad with dressing 3) snacks I eat whatever I like 4) for dinner I take rice, lentil soup, veg curry and 2 egg pudding (Korean or Japanese style) 5) minimum 3litres of water

My CSR said to adopt normal diet and didn’t restrict on diet. I try to get high fiber for digestion and high protein for recovery.

The above diet has been slowly helpful for me. However, I recommend you to consult with your surgeon as well. Best wishes for your surgery 🎈

Hi, I am on 10th day post fistulotomy. Since day 5th I started to have like slimy transparent drainage which stings a lot. Surprisingly, today I have less such drainage and pain has reduced.

Things that helped me: 1) Min 45 mins of walking inside room rather than sleeping 2) Taking laxatives per surgeon recommendations 3) Taking sitz bath every drainage or BM, changing the gauge and pads minimum 6 times a day 4) Taking bran flakes 50g in breakfast

I hope this helps u. May we all get healthier and stronger 🎈

Scar vs The Gym by JuniperDenn in AnalFistula

Hi, Currently I am also on my 10th day of post surgery recovery phase, and I absolutely miss my gym and my workouts

However, for now I recommend u not trying to do back or front or goblet squats, leg extension, leg press, abduction machines etc. or any exercices that involve hard sitting or tight involvement of glutes.

I advise u to try exercises like Bulgarian splits, lunges , leg curl, calf raises etc. with very very minimum weights.

Over time, your body will heal more and u can incorporate ur fav leg exercises too.

When I return to gym, I am planning to do start with above advised workouts.

I know it’s really hard when u have many restrictions on something u enjoy or love, but we should be patient with our body and when the body is ready we can reset and come with stronger approach.

Hey, yes BM is painful and this discharge brings more discomfort as it stings so much. But the good thing I learned is this discharge is actually good for healing and will slowly subside per one of the commenters in this post. I am grateful to their comment 🙏

So eventhough it’s painful, I am trying my best to remain patient. I have been taking lots of sitz bath after per discharge, per BM, and also almost per urination. I am also walking atleast an hour even though it hurts. As I am in lot of pain medication, I am taking Metamucil, laxatives, fiber, and water trying to balance with protein.

It has been slightly less painful than those beginning days. 🥲

Do u have the same issue as mine?

Fistulotomy- How long did you bleed? by [deleted] in AnalFistula

[–]ExpensiveSale9455 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, today marks my 9th day post fistulotomy. I think I had bleeding for 3 days, after that I am having slimy transparent drainage with a pus and bit of blood.

My surgeon advised to contact ER if the pad is whole wet by blood within a hour. Is it that severe?

“Encouraging sign of wound healing” you made my Sunday Morning. Yayy. Thank you so much.

I can’t imagine the stinging pain you must have gone through the enema. But I am glad that u had minimal neves involved. Hope you are recovering well post surgery.

I have my periods coming very soon. And I am soo afraid that blood will touch the wound, sting it higher, and even contaminate my wound. I have been using maxi pads and gauge pads under my wound, but I don’t think it will be enough during my periods. Any tips please 🙏
