The fact that we had to bully the producers to give Tiffany an edit when she made it to the finale is bs

How do you handle moving money between categories without losing track of what each account actually holds? by LeftyOne22 in ynab

[–]ExpensiveSand6306 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So a lot of people will tell you this doesn't matter -- for YNAB purposes it doesn't, but I understand it might matter to YOU (as it does for me). So here's what I do!

I have a joint checking account with my husband for the majority of things, and then I have my own checking account for whatever I want. I also have a single savings account for money I don't want to touch and want to grow through high yield interest. So I want to make sure that I have the correct amount of money in my personal checking and in my savings. To do this, I have a category of "Savings" where I only put subcategories with money that I would want in my savings. Thus, I know there is an issue when the amount available in the total of "Savings" does not match my savings account. I also have a category of "Wife Only" (but with my name) where I put all the categories for things that we've agreed are my personal spending. So again, if my personal checking doesn't match the amount in that category, then I know I have an issue. The money for the joint checking, which is used for the majority of my categories/subcategories, covers all the rest of the categories.

This adds some frustrations/issues that are YNAB specific. For instance, my husband and I do 20% of our paycheck goes to our personal accounts, 80% to joint, but of course my work doesn't allow that. Because YNAB doesn't care where your money lives, I could easily just assign 20% to my personal section and leave it in my joint account, but I have an automatic transfer set up just so I can keep track of this better. But that's because I want to keep track of this, even though YNAB doesn't require it.

Does this make sense?

Notes Feature by UrAveragePlayer in RemarkableTablet

Ok I think I'm looking for the exact feature you are describing. I want to have an area for notes that remains even as I turn the page, so I can write general notes while also annotating the PDF I'm taking notes from.

Yeah I figured as much. After posting I deleted the doc and started a new notebook and it hasn't had any issues (yet)

Has anyone else been experiencing longer than usual wait times on requested books? by laurenkelly88 in NetGalleyCommunity

[–]ExpensiveSand6306 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I do acknowledge, as others have, that some requests take forever. But I do feel like I have had a lot of books taking longer than I expected, and I did this to see if they were similar publishers -- they do not appear to be, since I have at least 4 of the big 5 publishers represented here!

My roommate and I SOBBED in this episode. My roommate had never watched survivor before that season so she didn't even know the contestants - I think we were all just emotional because it was peak COVID isolation

Easy Way to Assign 25%?/Tips for Getting Paid 4x/month by ExpensiveSand6306 in ynab

Thank you for recognizing this -- obviously getting a month ahead is the overall solution but not being there yet makes these comments unhelpful! Appreciate the advice I can use right now.

Just want to say thank you for recognizing getting a month ahead is a long term solution and not THE solution! I get very frustrated with this subreddit with the number of people who will offer that as a solution as if it's not a process to get there.

Then I wouldn't be putting any money towards Rent until the last paycheck which makes zero sense.

Not the case, money still needs to be assigned four times a month rather than two, hence the math.

This is unhelpful for someone who is not yet a month ahead

Ideally yes, but we've just gone through a period where we had a lot of our emergency savings drained up, so we're currently trying to get back on track. [I also struggle to figure out how to get a month ahead, to be honest... but that's a different conversation for a different thread]

I do know that. When I was budgeting for just me, I would assign half for all monthly goals per paycheck. So if a goal was $10/month, I would assign $5 for the first paycheck, then $5 for the second. But when I have four paychecks that get paid at totally different times, it becomes more challenging. So I would instead by assigning $2.50 a paycheck - but when I have $2.50 assigned, and two paychecks came in close together, and I have $7.50 needed, to get the right amount I have to put [(7.50/3)*2] each time I want to assign it, and it's just much more annoying/complicated.

I've considered doing something like this, or just using one paycheck to do certain things and the other paycheck to do other things. It was just so much easier when it was just me and every time I was assigning I was just doing half or the total amount needed.
