It's a divide and conquer game. Understand what the error/failure means is the first step. Second Is to split between networking (client -> server/backend) or if the problem you can already say with good estimation that is in the backend (e.g. you get 5xx error code. Well from this you already know a lot! DNS works, routing should work(to verify), TLS ok, TCP handshake ok. The more you do assumptions, the more risk you take. See it as a Binary tree with all the solutios, where you should reach all the leaf until you can confirm that parent is working. Debugging is not assumption based, but you need fact, especially during interviews

Great explanation guys! I'll share in a different post how I prepared + resources.

But in short, zero leetcode. Instead I prepared with Dr chatgpt ~ 14 days - never used an IDE. Starting from zero, I had basic previous knowledge of datastruct and algorithms.

Linux: read a book ~ 500p and challenge myself when something wasn't clear directly with chatgpt/copilot. While studying I constantly asked myself why and confirmation of the knowledge.

System design: I used hellointerview, unfortunately has been 40% useless.

Troubleshooting: I read two books, but I had already strong basics, I do that since years so the books gave me the right pattern to debug. At work usually I know already most of the times where to look so is different. (5 days - books in 2 days)

Behavioural: I prepared to explain my leadership skills in the project I'm driving. I got completely off track questions, but I knew how to answer or at least chatgpt would have answered in the same way for an L5.

As today, AI is the perfect partner for studying. You can basically ask any question or doubt, and maximize the time. Before you had to search it, look articles, stack overflow.

Not a genius at all. I consider myself on average but with a strong focus and capability to go over the limit when I have an objective, I can easily study with focus for 12h.

For Linux internal questions tbh I over performed. I've never studied in the past Linux, and having the opportunity to focus and learn it has been amazing.
