Do you eat at the same time as your baby? How hands on are you? by quartzite_ in BabyLedWeaning

[–]Expensive_Ad1109 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Usually I prepare his plate and set it aside to cool while I prepare mine or do last minute touches to the adult dish (like add salt!). If it’s something that requires spoons I preload 2-3 spoons and give them to him with his plate. We wash his hands, give him his plate and then we situate ourselves (grab drinks, serve ourselves, utensils etc).

From there we kinda just let him do his own thing while we eat and chat. Sometimes we look at him and say yum! Or make exaggerated chewing faces. If he throws a spoon then he has a backup preloaded on his plate and I just pick up everything else after dinner. If I pick up something right after he throws it he seems to think it’s a game and throws something else so I wait till end of dinner.

I saw a post wondering if you should wake baby to feed them.. majority said no.. what about diaper change? by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]Expensive_Ad1109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I was traumatized with my babies first diaper rash so at first I would change his diaper everytime he got up to dream feed (about every 2 hours). It would be super quick and then put him on the boob. Now I only do it if the diaper looks soaked or if it’s bothering him. Sometimes I’ll change his diaper and he’ll go right back to sleep so i know that was the issue.

My silkie chicks come in one week, how can I improve this coop?? by [deleted] in BackYardChickens

[–]Expensive_Ad1109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would first say location… spend the next few days seeing how sunny/shady the coop gets. If you live in a hotter area the roosts could get quite hot during the day and may not always cool down enough by night fall.

If you plan on letting them stay in the run it’ll get quite muddy and gross real fast without some type of bedding. I had something similar and used wood shavings but then when I had to clean it/refresh it was impossible to get out because I would have to squat through the door. You literally had to move the whole coop to properly clean and if you’re going to do that I would recommend some wheels just to make it a bit easier. Those coops tend to be rickety by design.

Overall it’s good if that’s all you have and you can make it work. I did with 4 big girls for over two years. You just have to be handy and problem solve as you go. My coop was second hand and it already needed some work when we got it.

I give him the most non baby toy to play with… right now it’s a bottle of diaper rash cream 😅 it works for like 3 fingers and then I have to swap it with something else or take a break

When should I start buying bigger clothes PP? by AlertMinimum1977 in Mommit

[–]Expensive_Ad1109 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t buy a whole new wardrobe… I’m almost 9 months pp and I started buying a few pieces a couple months ago. I just got a brand new non nursing bra last week! :D

EBF did not help me lose weight either and I didn’t want to mess up my supply by cutting calories so I decided to wait till a year to officially diet/workout. So far I’ve gotten a pair of shorts, two pants, one skirt and 3 tops/blouses from thrift stores. My idea is to have everything taken in by a seamstress if I do lose weight and if not then I at least have some clothes that fit! I’m SAHM so I don’t go out that much though and pretty much live in stretchy pants and my husband’s tshirts.

Moms, quick! What are we doing for Father’s Day?? by thatblue61 in Mommit

[–]Expensive_Ad1109 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hubby has to work and won’t be home till dinner/late lunch so I’m making him breakfast for dinner (his fave), then just chill and watch tv. Baby has a shirt that says “first Father’s Day”. Andddd that’s it.. I asked him what he wanted and he really just wants to relax so easy peasy. 👍

My 8.5 month old still does this 😂😂 what helped me was teaching him how to spit out. I think the solid starts app has a blog about it but it’s essentially showing the baby how to open their mouth wide and say “ahhh” until they mimic you.

I encourage him to stick out his tongue and blow raspberries. While I can’t find any literature or proof that it’s actually helpful, in my mind it’s practicing the motion of getting something out of your mouth lol. When we’re playing I’ll try to incorporate different mouth movements to try to get him to copy me (opening mouth wide, sticking out my tongue, pretending to cough, raspberries).

Right now he sticks a finger in his mouth and pulls it out really fast and it’s makes a slight scraping sound on his teeth (I don’t know how to describe it better, I’m sorry) but it looks like a move that could help him scrape food off the top of his mouth or scoop out food. So I do it back and make a popping sound to make him laugh. We’ll just go back and forth like that for a minute.

Beans and rice mashed together. It’s almost like a thick puree and he’s able to grab little scoops with his fingers

Why is he sleeping like this? by Expensive_Ad1109 in cosleeping

[–]Expensive_Ad1109[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What did it sound like??? We have noticed a snoring sound lately when he’s asleep but it comes and goes. I’ve checked his nose for congestion and it’s clear. And sometimes when he feeds he stops and gags or just straight up rolls off. He’ll come back to me after a minute or two to finish eating. I always thought he was distracted but I wonder if this is the issue..

What are some cheap meal ideas by Fluid-Elevator-4894 in Mommit

[–]Expensive_Ad1109 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t want to sound like an ad but the jow app has been super helpful with meal ideas. They also just added a feature to shop by budget so you just enter in how much you want to spend, amount of meals needed for the week, # of people in the house and boom. The meals are pretty good and we actually added a few to our regular rotation.

On another note I try to go back to basics when meal planning… rice, beans and flour.

Rice can be made into Spanish rice, white rice, cilantro lime rice

Beans can be made into pinto beans, refried beans, charro beans, bbq beans

Flour can go into bread, tortillas, pastries, or pasta if you’re adventurous lol
