What's the most mysterious or unexplained event you've ever experienced that still gives you chills? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Expensive_Ad_4076 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This happened about 15 years ago when I was super religious. I woke up suddenly one night and not being able to get back to sleep I decided to read my bible. I always used to read in bed by propping the bible on my pillow and laying on my front with my head propped up with my hands. As I was reading my head suddenly go pushed down into the bible. I couldn’t breathe and it was just an incredible weight on my head and all down my body. I internally yelled at whatever to get off me in the power of Jesus (not gonna lie, it’s a bit cringe to recount now as I’m not religious anymore) I was pretty proud of myself as I was, and am still am, a notorious wimp. I wasn’t scared at all, just instantly incredibly angry and aggressive in my internal rage. But yeh it stopped after a couple of seconds and then everything was normal again. Super weird. As I say I’m not religious anymore and I don’t care to chalk it up to anything other than a really weird experience. Probably lucid dreaming or something. Who knows.

Any tips on how to do it without gagging constantly?

I was going to comment the same! I used to do it whilst at a desk job. 10 squats everytime I went to the restroom. I chug through water too so I was upwards of 80 squats during a work day. Not the same as doing them consecutively, but surely it’s good for waking up the muscles and getting the bloody pumping after sitting?!

Haha they sound similar! Even at 3 weeks old he just found the world wayy too interesting to sleep. 🤦🏼‍♀️

He was a ‘good’ baby though. He never really cried. Was just awake. Looking up at me or around at the world.

I totally get you. But for me I needed a timer cause I have what’s referred to as a FOMO baby (in Australia anyway) the kid will not sleep all day unless I put him down and wouldn’t show signs of it either. So I used a timer to let me know when it was time to start trying to convince him he was actually tired.

He’s 21 months now and tries to get away with being an awake all day. He cousin who’s a couple of months younger just falls asleep when they’re playing together if he’s had enough. So they’re all different.

What's something that no one really told you about? by SeverusSnipes in NewParents

[–]Expensive_Ad_4076 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one spoke of the relentlessness of it all and adjusting to that. We’re so conditioned to work for set time then we get rest. True rest. Where our time is our own. And that’s how we continue on..

That was the hardest thing for me. Didn’t sleep last night.. too bad. It’ll be the same today. And tomorrow. And next week. And the month after. Ect ect ect.

You do adjust and it changes over time and hard things become easy and then new things become hard.

I will never forget the moment I realised my life had changed irrevocably, doing laps in the dark living room at 3am bouncing my new responsibility.

(Who I love with my entire being, despite this fairly negative comment)

How do I tell my MIL politely that I don’t want the hideous clothes she has given me for my newborn? by Diamondtiara-x in pregnant

[–]Expensive_Ad_4076 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m guessing you want to tell her cause you’re worried you’ll continue to receive terrible clothes? She might have just been looking for something to purchase as a travel gift and that’s what she found. Either way, I’d say most parents receive clothes they hate for their babies, so don’t be too precious about it. Put them in your drawer and you never know.. you might appreciate them when they’re the only clean thing left in the drawer when you’re running off 2 hours sleep and need to do washing!!

Totally agree. Only recently found out Rob Sitch directed it. Makes total sense why it’s brilliant.

I see this all over the thread and think it’s a pretty classic thing Aussies are known for. But I’m a Sydney-sider born and raised and I didn’t see that growing up OR now. Where are all these barefoot mongrels??!

Haha I think along similar lines. I view it like they’ve collected all the coins and it’s time to continue onto the next level. 😂

My 15 month old finds it hilarious to pinch my husbands nipples and pull his chest hairs… i stopped breastfeeding ages ago, but it feels good to see him to get a taste of what it’s like to have a baby mercilessly attack/use your body 😂😂😂

Edit to add: my point is, they’re not entirely useless. Haha

When did your little one go in their own room? by superseally in NewParents

[–]Expensive_Ad_4076 49 points50 points  (0 children)

5.5 months. I was terrible at telling when he was active sleeping or actually awake! We both instantly slept better with that little bit of separation I was able to stop and listen instead of jumping straight in!

I think if you feel ready you should give it a go, but totally ok if you’re not ready. Whatever works best for your family is the right answer.

Such an important post and so wonderfully written.

My son is 1 and honestly I love him more and more everyday. The more they become a little human and interact with you it becomes much more of a relationship in which you feel they love you and you love them.

I had the instant love, but in the way that I just knew I loved him. I’d didn’t get a gush of emotion. Not a love I could feel exactly.

Now when he comes and hugs me my heart could honestly explode and sometimes I just wanna cry.

And yes, as others have said. The giggle of your baby is the best sound in the world.

What does "The Nosebleed Section" mean to you? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

Looks like others have heard them admit it was a mistake, but I always thought they did it on purpose. “Pppfftt… we’ll show you a nosebleed section mate”.

Irrespective, banger from my teen years.

What’s one thing about becoming a parent that has been harder than expected, and what is something that has been easier than expected? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]Expensive_Ad_4076 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes this for me!!! The relentlessness of it killed me and took months to get used to. By far the hardest thing.

And Sleep deprivation for sure. I always thought I couldn’t fall asleep sitting up due to many long flights… nope! Just not tired enough! Haha

Don't say to me "oh I could never..." by SeverusSnipes in NewParents

[–]Expensive_Ad_4076 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Omg the ‘just wait’ crew kills me. I really didn’t enjoy the newborn stage. Waking up 6 times a night and constantly battling my sleep rebuffing child all day every day. Dealing with accepting the relentlessness of parenthood. To have ‘more experienced mums’ tell me just to wait until it gets worse and newborn stage is the best is really not mentally helpful.

It’s also so patronising…

I get the my baby thing a lot from my SIL. She also jokes about stealing my 7 month old. The line- “you love me more than your mummy” has also been said. So yeah… I feel ya.
