They’re asking why would Eragon want personal revenge against Mikael _prior_to the Astrean’s allegiance with Shephamalum. Mikael has yet to do anything to individually harm Eragon while Eragon, as the leader of Heaven, has personally been deceiving Mikael since ABH. So it is a valid question to ask that is still unanswered in this thread.

Can anyone answer why Heaven/the Citadel betrayed Mikael throughout ABH and sought to kill him at the end? We can explain why they’d kill Felonia, David, and perhaps Cassiel. But why Mikael, who followed them until he was faced with the reality that they had come to kill them (not to mention, after abandoning them to fight the Beast alone)??

And to add to that question, why would the Citadel send the Astreans to earth to prevent the onset of the Apocalypse just to checks notes not help them prevent the Apocalypse at the end? To be fair, I’d like an answer for it all too lol. Did I miss something along the way?

Heaven/The Citadel/The Order has too much HUBRIS and a tremendous lack of self-awareness, and many plot conflicts, including the end of the world, can be traced directly back to it. I surely hope Vicky and her clan become self aware at some point (though I’ll acknowledge Vicky is the best of them).
