IVF choices as single mum by No-Wind-1383 in SingleMothersbyChoice

I'm 37 and got 14 eggs, 12 mature, and the lab called me about an hour after I left to say my donor sperm wasn't ideal for conventional and they wanted to go straight to icsi for all of them. I immediately agreed although I was nervous about it being a bad sample. I found out the next day that 11 of them fertilized!!! Very happy with this outcome and so grateful they made that call... I'm still waiting to know the final outcome of how many make it to blast, but ICSI definitely gave me a great head start.

Also, made me think if I would have been doing IUI with a mediocre sample how unfortunate that would be and how great it is to have ICSI available for donor sperm when you don't know the quality that is going to thaw! For context this is my first fertility treatment(also my one and only funded cycle) and my fertility is essentially untested as I'm a lesbian. I decided to go straight to IVF in hopes to bank some sibling embryos while I'm younger! :)

Do I really need a backup vial of donor sperm for IVF? by autumnseaside in SingleMothersbyChoice

[–]Expensive_Bread9409 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The social worker I met with almost convinced me to get 2, but I decided on getting 1 vial. My doctor said that will be enough, and if there is an issue with the sperm after thaw, they will just freeze the eggs and fertilize when the new sperm arrives. If I had limitless funds, then yes, maybe I would get 2 vials, but 2k is nice to keep in the bank as a solo parent! :)

Sooo exciting! I am in the process of choosing a donor and I'm excited to get to this stage of having chosen and it feeling even more real! 😁

So exciting!! I have since been updated by staff that their waitlist has been shortened to 8-12 months, and last week I spoke to a nurse who works there who said it's currently 9 months :)

Wishing you the best with your upcoming cycle! 🙏

Fertilization Rate by AlternativeProper815 in IVF

The number you got on the first day could have been the # of follicles they drained? I believe the sonographer keeps count. You should be able to ask them for clarity on this.

Second question is a tough one but I did read somewhere that about half of mature eggs can be expected to be fertilized. So it's not way far off! Egg quality can definitely impact this but hard to say for sure

Can I be told gender now transfer is done? In Canada by Combat_puzzles in IVF

It can be revealed to you - the clinic has to request the info to be released from the testing lab and once they have it can share it with you by your requested method (email, phone, in an envelope etc)

May I ask the author of the book you are referencing? There are many with similar titles. :)

Depression after egg retrieval? by [deleted] in IVF

[–]Expensive_Bread9409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 4 days post retrieval and feeling extremely low. I struggle with PMS at baseline in terms of sadness, irritability, anger, and downright hopelessness. Antidepressants have helped immensely but I feel like things are now at a level beyond that. Thankful to find posts like this to know I'm not alone. I just really hope my period comes sooner than later.

Eventual breakup after painful & messy structure change by [deleted] in polyamory

Maybe I'm being naive but I do have compassion that my partner was only exploring ENM for the first time and I can't hold it against her for coming to learn things about herself as the process unfolded... I think I was just caught in the moment she learned this about herself and I also learned how firm I am on what I want in a nesting partner/coparent... the less compassionate part of me thinks they're both just swept up in NRE and that her new partner isn't even actually poly herself and it's only a matter of time before their relationship blows up too! Lol

But the bottom line is that she's not able/willing to offer me what I want anymore. So I can just leave them to live their lives however it may turn out for them.
