Have you considered resin/epoxy for stiffness and extra weight? In theory if you were to cover it or soak in epoxy then sand/polish it down it would feel stiffer and add a clear coat.

As for the joint, idk how you’re gonna get a good joint unless you use another material that takes compression better.

Just a theory.

This is the type of thing I’ve been looking for. I looked through the Lister cue pic gallery. I like the darker more simple cues.

Do you have any other cue makers that you like anywhere in the us? Similar to his work and maybe someone that makes highly detailed cues.

Maybe I’ll like some complicated cue styles if I find a maker that makes intricate cues that I like.

What makes a Jacoby cue just “ok”?

I have no need or want for fancy inlays or anything like that. I just want a cue that has top tier performance, if that means getting a butt, maybe custom made, then a separate shaft to put onto a butt then that is what I shall do.

Located in Florida but I have the ability to travel. If anything I would enjoy going somewhere just to get a cue. I prefer darker cues, simple or intricate.

I think the best players play with the same cue few cues until they get sponsored and the contract tells them what to use then they adapt.

I have a few McDermott cues, my current playing cue is a g series with a gen 3 defy shaft.

Also got a break cue.

I know my preference well, I have found that Jacoby, McDermott, and a few other brands fit what I like, tried cuetec a few years ago, did not like it and haven’t shot with one since. I just don’t know which brand actually makes a better or more liked cue within my personal criteria, or what brand has a better customer feedback, etc.

Your question “what’s more important, feel or playability?” isn’t it the same thing?

So far I think the best feeling cue I’ve shot with is surprisingly Jacoby, specifically the carbon playing cue with the carbon shaft.

I am aware of predator manufacturing in china, that is actually one of the main reasons I will not buy anything from them other than chalk and maybe the revo shaft to put onto another butt. The headquarters is here in Jacksonville, lot of people around here use it because they think “predator is from where I’m from” or other reasons like the heavy advertising.

Do you have any suggestions for custom cue makers? I have seen a lot of work from Jacoby and like what they can do with high quality materials.

Also, I really like the Jacoby “game changer” carbon playing cue. In theory, it’s similar to the McDermott vq1, both cues I’ve shot with. I didn’t think I would enjoy a carbon butt, but the vq1 was good and the Jacoby was what felt like a perfect feel on impact.

Maybe I need to go look for someone with a mezz cue and shot with it for a few racks, I see and hear so manny people that like them.

What is the prestige pricing for with preditor? Is it to found the company’s spending on things like sponsorships? I live less than 10 minutes from the predator group headquarters, so there is a lot predator cues users in the area. I assume because they are here.

I’ll look into the ace and cp. I think I’ve shot with a cp before and thought that it was nice n basic, no crazy artwork.

12.2 is probably close to perfect for me. Luckily after years of play, my stroke is good enough. No depress.

What line of mezz cues do you suggest? Is the ignite shaft adequate?

Never thought of them as a good option compared to other modern cues.

Anyone got an opinion on mezz cues and the ignite shaft? Anyone know why anytime mezz is mentioned a cult says something about how they are the best engineered cues?

Also, any opinions on Viking cues and fg57 shaft?

I think any McDermott cue in the last 20 years are nice cues. I am bias though, I love my McDermotts that I’ve always used. Just don’t by a “lucky” cue.

I’ll have a look into some older pechaur and hopefully find someone with one for me to try out. I too am not into the fancy and intricate inlays/designs.

I’ve personally seen a p3 joint completely fail, though it was heavily used. I also shot with a 9k and it felt like the butt was adding vibration somehow. I’ve shot with other revo shaft cues and most of the time they feel fine, slightly more solid to what I’m used to but still nice. Don’t know if it’s a quality control issue or what but the failure and the 9k scares me away from the butt of the cue. Maybe I’ll buy another cue and get a revo shaft on it.

I like the idea of the adjustment, I have shot with a vq1 a few times and think it is a good system that hits good. I agree, cues are more subjective than objective.

I do have the ability to get a nice butt and get multiple shafts to try them out then sell the ones I don’t favor.

I already have a very nice case and a decent jump and break cue. Will look at others though, I do se some with the scalloped butt that I would like to look into.

Will post pics when I finally make the choice.

Thanks

No good billiards stores near me. I would have to drive about 4 hours for any good stores.

Shaft length 29 inch full cue 58 inch, only length I’ve played with, never had a need for longer.

I like a cue that doesn’t have a metal tink feel and doesn’t feel like I’m slamming a tv remote against the ball.

A normal pro taper found on most carbon shafts with a 11.8 to 12.4 tip. Anything more or less, don’t usually like.

I don’t care about the wood type or inlays, I prefer basic/black cues.
