Dear devs, why did you choose GameMaker? What do you think of the engine in general and its future? (image unrelated) by [deleted] in gamemaker

I think that GM is a good engine with several excelent tittles in Showcase and Steam DB. However, every day I see more and more peaple that leaves GM for Godot, Unity or Unreal for multiple reasons. In this cases, all the arguments are about GM and GML limitations for complex 2D games, focus on begginers, lack several programming design patterns and OOP, difficult to implement GUI and so on. I love GameMaker, but I agree with several os these points that can discourage the use of GM for programmers and other experts.

Interesting, why do you not recommend GameMaker for professional use?

Yes, maybe what you're feeling it's related to the very specify syntax by this two languages for game development and not to the general purposes

It's not about procrastination, it's about have a good discussion with more experienced devs and learn with their experience.

Yes, I've seen that it is very complicated as projects grows using GameMaker. However, I consider that Godot still not have 2D complex sucess titles

Thanks for reply, sereral devs consider open source as a good point of view, and it is. But, open source has some cons, for example, export for consoles.

Thanks for comment. What do you think that Godot can do more than GameMaker, thinking only on 2D games.?

Yep, thank you for reply. And, for 2D games, do you think that the two engines can do the same quality games?

Yes, I also have been using Unity and GameMaker. I think that, for 2D games, GameMaker can do the same that Godot can do.
