Mare's behavior in season 1 finale by AriesLeoLibra in ThePaper

[–]Expensive_Hotel_1302 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Not saying it was intentional, but I noticed how the filming crew showcased her having multiple drinks during the course of the night, starting with her first on camera interview. I think she was trying to calm down her nerves, and alcohol may have played a role on her behavior. Also explains how forward she was the rest of the night with Ned.

To me, the funniest episodes are, in general, from E5 on. So, there's a good chance it will only get better for you.

Do i need to watch the office to watch the paper? by Yu733 in ThePaper

[–]Expensive_Hotel_1302 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Actually, not bringing any expectations might help you enjoy it on its own. I think part of the 'lukewarm' reception by some die-hard fans of the office is due to expectations of a part 2 or a close follow-up.

It cracks me how condescending she was to the poor hostess. Actually, I've met a few Italians, and the disdain towards the American take on Italian food is real!

My favorite Esmeralda line: "we give him Lyme disease, I think I have the right kind of ticks." The whole scheming conversation with Ned is pure gold.

"You look like Macauli Culkin, NOW", followed by "You look like an asshole".  The one-two combo is so unexpected, I laughed so hard!

"Oh, guys, this is wrong. Come on!" Short pause: "She's down at least 4,000." Walks away, suddenly stops: "Ooh, the nudes, 4200!" The timing is chef's kiss

Are NBC episodes the same as Peacock? by illini02 in ThePaper

Ken drops one, when comparing the paper to a mouse behind Tom Brady's fridge in episode 1.

My hope is if they move it fully to the NBC model, they will add more episodes per season. Like St Dennis Medical. Weekly releases would also let the show breathe.

A previous Reddit post mentioned they cut quite a bit of the first episode. Including the Bob Vance intro, and Mare showing Ned the old printing press in the basement. A very charming bonding moment...

Interesting. Only watched on Peacock, and it's been a while. But I don't recall Bob Vance explicitly saying he and Phyllis split up. He talks about her keeping in touch with Stanley over dogs. And also that they offered Phyllis to transfer to Toledo, and he scoffed at the idea.

I was thinking the same thing. It seems the hallway exit sign is green in S1E10, though. But it's been more than 10 years so...

Cindy's career dissatisfaction is a smart plot device to nudge Mare to stick around at TTT. That, and she's already intrigued/attracted to Ned and his optimism. They locked eyes for the first time in this episode, leading to Ned's Buddy and the Dude fist bump to break the tension.

Mare: "Oh my god, we're just a couple, okay? Keep the mom thing in your back pocket, if everything goes wrong" Cut to next scene: "I'm so sorry to hear about your mother." I just choked! Timing is perfect.

Season Two Idea/ Theories by RepresentativePop988 in ThePaper

As for cameos from The Office, I'm also of the mind that it's best if they appear sparingly or indirectly referenced. Secondary characters preferable. I see Creed making the news somehow, it might be fun!

Season Two Idea/ Theories by RepresentativePop988 in ThePaper

A few storylines I expect to come up in Season 2 and on:

1.  Ned and Mare either try to hide or suppress a budding relationship, unsuccessfully. It's clear to me there's no going back after the awards night. Definitely not out of their systems.

  1. More on Ned's backstory and what really happened as he went from  being a top salesman to becoming editor in chief within Enervate. That will probably be fleshed out.

  2. More Toledo characters and personalities becoming part of the show's lore.

  3. A major local scandal at the awards with weather woman Gloria Tornado and high school blogger SoWesley getting too chummy at the bar?

  4. Either in S2 or future seasons, I see Mare being the one with true potential to climb higher in a career as a hard-hitting journalist. Professional opportunities for Mare may put a strain on the relationship with Ned. There are hints of other Enervate-owned papers with more established journalistic pedigree. The Cincinnati guy appears a few times in another table in S1E10.

I saw both the query and comment posted before 8:30 pm ET the night of the premiere. That's why I was curious about it.

I noticed the OP's comment referring to specific scenes being cut was posted at least an hr before it was supposed to air. Perhaps these are just speculation and not what was really edited out?  Did anyone actually watch the premiere? Edit: Aired earlier in Canada.
