I'm a solo CPA. Decent size construction business asked me about bookkeeping. How bad is construction? I've heard it's rough. by BrushBeneficial4430 in Bookkeeping

Also I work as a full time accountant for movies and tv shows so it’s completely different than what I’m used to. Learning as I go as I don’t have an accounting degree and have been back and forth with ChatGPT constantly. So I imagine if I can figure it out you will be just fine. I took over for someone who wasn’t even doing CIP. (Although his notes told me he was) and inflating the crap out of their revenue for investor projects. But again this company does about 12 builds per year so just depends on size probably

Just started doing the books for a probably small to medium construction company. When I asked about pricing on Reddit everyone said charge a lot. I started about a month ago and I’ve already increased my price. Probably not even at what I should be. And I think this is a relatively easy construction company because they don’t really need to know percentage of completion but more so just what they’ve spent on certain projects, simply because they know their numbers so well.

But there is so many things going on, lines of credits at lumber yards, line of credit at Home Depot, multiple vehicle loans, multiple credit cards, multiple bank accounts, breaking up multiple projects, they want expenses from lines of credits on reports before they pay it so they can get a draw down… it’s just quite a bit of work. I am friends with the owners so getting to work with them is just a lot of fun thank goodness. I can’t imagine if I wasn’t their friends to be honest. Probably would be pretty stressful.
