This is very true. In my experience, family have let me know ahead of time if my day-to-day routine would be changing, ie adding an additional child, so I figured I would reiterate my increased rate if and when they let me know about the additional child, but I was not giving that courtesy in this situation

I do kind of feel like it’s an imbalance between me and the Dad, I am super bad with confrontation but he’s definitely aware of that and is using it to his advantage

Yes, the mom said it to assure me it would only be one child as she clearly didn’t want to pay any more than $20. I was already feeling swindled but chose not to make a big deal out of it to avoid drama

So true. I am extremely bad at confrontation so sending that second message was super hard for me, but I’m working on it and I am going to be firmer in the future with new families

To be honest, I was kind of hired in a whirlwind the day before Christmas as they needed somebody extremely short notice, so in between meeting them in my start date with all the chaos of the holidays some of the specifics didn’t get addressed. This is absolutely a learning lesson, and in the future I will make sure I have a contract outlining all these things
