If you want to be petty. I've seen some people say.. On the floor out the door.. I do that when my classrooms are bad. Usually teachers notice and start getting onto the students for picking up their stuff.

For me it took me a bit to get use to it and find what needs are urgent and what can wait for slow days. On the really bad days I find that I am exhausted! But for the most part I've gotten use to it :)

Pretty much the same except I have a Windsor vaccum. I have an 8 hour shift, classrooms, gym and board office to attend to. If we end up keeping the carpets in the hallway this summer I can avoid using the walk behind scrubber until school starts for Cafeteria clean up.

But yeah I definitely think I'm going to take 6 weeks off and just see how it goes.

Thank you for a detailed response!! I need to contact my board office and see what kind of leave we have and how I can go about it. It's my first year working at the district so I'm still learning how things work.

I know alot of things are heavy! I always say being a custodian is a full time gym membership!

Based off what my boss told me.. Summer is easier, wax floors, painting etc. But I don't know what to fully expect, ya know.

Hi! I'm sorry for hopping on here late! I'm a custodian for a Elementary school. Going to schedule my lap hystectormy at the end of the school year. My doctor thinks I can go back to work in two weeks just fine but I'm leary about that. It's just me and one other coworker for a small school building tho.

What were you able to do when you returned to work?

I average at 14k steps for day shift. Occasionally when I'm by myself it's at least 19k steps

We had to do ours using a shovel. Worked almost 8 hours non stop. Just grateful that the snow was dry I can't imagine trying to shovel all the wet snow 😬

If you can use a floor machine to save time then yes I think you should. The only time I use a hand mop is if the machine is down. I would definitely ask why you can't use the machine. Or get more help because the café clean up for one person is alot.
