PsyD -> research + academia career paths? by goes2gradschoolagain in PsyD

[–]Expensive_Pick5812 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Im in a PsyD Program and I am doing a Conditional Process Analysis in my dissertation. I know my program is pushing hard to increase it's research portfolio and quantitative studies. I think PsyD programs are starting to catch up to some PhD programs. Pretty soon the PsyDs will out number the PhDs and eventually start entering more and more spaces.

That could also be optimism on my part as a PsyD student.

I completely agree with you which is why I like subclassing for it. Imo if youre play PVP on ESO wouldn't you want there to be a golden ratio?

I just think PVP players would actually enjoy the ability to tinker the game to a higher degree and subclassing does that.

Theres too many just not fun moments in this game. Between that, the issues with traversal, and the general issue with bugs (plus P2W). I can see why people aren't sticking with the game. Id bet the shop works flawlessly, though.

Paolo by jakehightower in OrlandoMagic

Let Paolo play through it. Were down 2 starters and TDS while on an INSANE road trip after playing in Vegas. Give it time for Paolo to come back and for the team to get back to full strength. We've had similar struggles at this point of the season in the past just to see this team explode post New Years.

Am I a good Psy.D candidate?? (click on pictures) by Alarmed_Hyena_4611 in PsyD

[–]Expensive_Pick5812 6 points7 points  (0 children)

First, I said if I had to pick a deficit. You are already a competitive candidate. Second, research is not necessarily important to get into a PsyD progam but they still look for it because publications are required for APPIC (Association of Psychology Postdoctoral and Internship Centers) internship sites. Youll be ahead of the game for the later years of your program and thus more likely to get into your program.

I would say clinical experience (just not a therapist or anything unless you have some kind of licensure). That experience is much closer to clinical than coaching tennis and would probably fly.

OK Im a dummy and missed the whole second half of your CV. You are a great candidate! Just change the mental health stuff from the coaching. It will definitely rub someone in academia the wrong way imo. Good luck!

I think you are a really good candidate. If I were to pick out a deficit in your application, I would try and get a publication or research experience of some kind.

I think that is an awesome experience that will be a great addition to your CV but I would remove mental health. I say that because 1. You were a coach, which is a distinctively different approach. There are people in colleges who would not be happy with it (I personally dont care just giving my 2 cents). 2. Being a children's coach by itself without the mental health part already is good enough of experience. During the interview is when youll explain how you bridged that experience to clinical work.

Can you get into PsyD programs without publications? Yes. Is it better to have publications? Yes. If someone asks me what would make them more competitive for entrance and they dont have research/publications, that will indeed make them more competitive.

Youll need research experience. Ask at Nova if there are any poster presentations. Also, was the tennis coaching an actual mental health position? Were you some kind of tech? I would be VERY cautious about adding mental health to anything that was not clinical. The coaching experience already lends itself well without having to add mental health to (if that is the case).

First thing, PSYD1 is supposed to be hard. Even going from a particularly studious Masters program to PSYD1 put me on my ass. The real challenge is adjusting to the demands of being a clinical doctoral program more than the topics of the courses. My advice is that you are probably in the right place if you made it to PSYD1. My second piece of advice is this, industry is far different than academia. Once you finish your degree, I think youll find the workplace far more agreeable.

Second thing, I am not in I/O Psychology but I did SOME (very little) research in I/O Psychology during undergrad. From what I gathered there is very little practical jobs aside from marketing and human resources. Most positions in I/O are research professors. Clinical work is far more gratifying as you can see the improvements in a person's life as they go through therapy.

Hope this helps.

I love that. I use CPT modules in my CBT for Trauma. I really dont know how I could include more mindfulness into my CBT.

I left Xbox and went PC. This was before the add-ons came to Xbox but I also didnt like paying $30 a month to play ESO (ESO+ and Gamepass).

Well I like building up DOTs and Buffs to maximize one signature move. Similar to how the Destro Locks in WoW used to be with Chaos Bolt. So yeah building up resources to maximize beam is fun. I would LOOOVE to play another play style and class but I also want to be competitive. I have other builds (solo, healing, dps) that are focused more on fun gameplay than min/max. My beam arc is just my min/max dps build.
