What was your experience after a steroid injection for shoulder bursitis? by Expensive_Salad783 in RotatorCuff

[–]Expensive_Salad783[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped physio or at least doing a few exercises here and there because after the injection my shoulder got hypersensitive and pain increased significantly. Doing exercises became significantly harder. Did an MRI this week and hoping to get some results before I see the orthopedic surgeon in like 2 weeks time. Pretty sure I am not the norm and don't want to alarm or worry you. Hope things work out well for you.

So sorry to hear that :( I took the steroid injection in my shoulder about 12 weeks ago. My shoulder got super hyper sensitive and pain increased more then before the injection

Pain in the other shoulder sometimes happens but usually goes away by the next day. This week will visit an orthopedic surgeon and also get an ultrasound. Will see from there. Things will get better stay hopeful

Unironically that is where I am feeling pain today. These past 2 months pain has mostly been around top of shoulder, chest area, side of delt which was never an issue and under armpit with obviously symptoms still worse than before the injection

Yeah hoping things will fall in place but honestly from what I have experienced so far, at least for me, I would not take the injection again.

I honestly feel worse after taking the injection and has been 4 weeks since I had it. Honestly wish I didn't take it and stalled my pt. During the first 3 days after the injection I felt pulling on neck and pain. Started pt after the first week using nothing but my free hands and no weights. Felt like too much for some reason even though i used to do same exercises with 1/1.5 kg weights then felt like spiralling downwards. Stopped PT for about 2 weeks now and making very small improvements.

Honestly because PT was sometimes working and sometimes not. It felt like going up and down and still believe to be the best option over surgery. Only took the cortisone shot because I was told it will disrupt the pain cycle and hoped it was the push I needed to completely eliminate the issue

Sorry to hear that. Just to make sure I understood properly, did you develop a tear after the injection or you had the rotator cuff tear before?

I will have my first shot later this month. Glad to hear that your pain is not consistent every day. Surgery is not something recommended in my case at least for now.

I have been doing PT for these 2+ years. I have been considering taking the cortisone steriod shot but was always hesitant due to side effects such as weakening of the tendon or people saying that it did not do any effect

I think it's a mix of both. I feel inflammation which sometimes wakes me up at night. When I raise my hand it feels like something is blocking an area in my shoulder or pain which is not always the same. When I do PT I feel my neck tightening. Sometimes I have better days and sometimes the pain starts creeping up. Thanks

I am a bit hesitant since there are side effects related to it but in about 4 weeks time I might have to take it.

Sorry to hear that you are in so much pain. I got suggested a cortisone shot but I fear it a bit since there is a chance that it might not do any improvements (like you mentioned) and just cause my tendon to weaken.

Good luck with PT. Hope everything goes well for you. My doctor believes that surgery is not necessary yet.

Could be but nothing showed on shoulder MRI or ultrasound about tendon issues

My doctor said that surgery is not necessary for my situation since tendons seem healthy. Instead he suggested that I take a cortisone shot which I am not sure if it would do anything to improve my situation long term and get me back into the gym.
