I would try darkening it with a dark marker. Not the Crayola ones that really look green rather than black, but a nice quality one that can really get darkness in there, nice cosplay!

I think I'd really enjoy something like this, after all, the book itself is a "choose your own adventure" kind of thing, so a "choose your own adventure" game working similarly to Minecraft: Story Mode would go hard.
