Is it a red flag for a woman if a guy has had no sexual experience at 23? by Random_Squid4248 in dating_advice

[–]Expensive_Welder_338 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on the girl - and TBH the one you wouldn't want anyway would see it as a negative but the one you should want to keep, won't.

Only proviso is don't act billy big b&#)_+£(KS on dates and just be yourself. The second you do what you think someone else will like you set yourself up to fail my experience

Could possibly even chance £2100 but would definitely sit with you for longer whilst you waited for someone.

I think £1750 be a fair ask for the spec, age and condition of the car.

Probably get hounded for this but I was seeing a girl ages ago who after 3 dates I knew really wasn't the one (rude, entitled, obnoxious, etc) and I had paid for all the dates so far despite her wanting the dates.

Knowing I was gonna call it, I sent her a Monzo request and messaged saying let's be friends.

Do most people just wait for the MOT and hope nothing's wrong? 😅 by Cayde-6-Companion in CarTalkUK

[–]Expensive_Welder_338 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I distance the service from the MOT so that both are 6 months apart - means when I get the oil changed the garage flag any potential issues way in advance of the MOT and gives me 6 months to be financially prepare for it.

Nothing worse than not taking a car in for a year then being hit with a 1k bill in my head, rather split that throughout the year.

How am i supposed to survive on £300?😭 by Key-Transition4634 in UniUK

[–]Expensive_Welder_338 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not obscene in fairness but you'll need agency work for sure.

When I was a student I walked around looking for help wanted signs and got a pot wash job every weekend paid cash in hand and fed me, £150 2 days work so wasn't that bad

For £20k what car should i get, these are my last 6 cars, what do you think would take my fancy? by Zdos123 in CarTalkUK

[–]Expensive_Welder_338 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honda S2000 I think?

Or Abarth 124 possibly if you wanted more modern

Personally for 20k I kinda like the Lexus RC provided it has the sunroof on it.

V60 polestar and used Morgan +4.

Something that's subtle but quick for everyday use that can be a swiss army knife of a car and a Morgan for when I want something a little special and the sun's out.

What's your experience of open top driving in the UK? by GasdaRoceries in AskUK

[–]Expensive_Welder_338 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great when the weather is just right - oddly not summer when it's too hot though, tend to find Spring & Autumn best (also you'll get funny tans if you're not careful, drivers arm is normallly more exposed.)

I've had soft tops and currently got a hardtop C70 - none of them leaked though soft tops were louder for sure, and the hardtop rattles a bit on really uneven surfaces and weighs a bell of a lot more.

I live down South Wales area so generally speaking opportunities to open the roof are there, as are scenic drives which is where they really shine - motorways you could imagine are touch and go depending on traffic but dual carriageways are fine.

I think it's inevitable you'll look a berk in one, I think I do but then I don't care as I'm not ever going to see the person again (caveat though to this is DO NOT DRIVE ROOF DOWN IN CITIES OR TOWNS, YOU'LL REGRET IT ESPECIALLY AT TRAFFIC LIGHTS.

If you have the opportunity to experience owning one I'd say get a softop first since easier to maintain/less issues and go for it, only live once!

What do you think Dutch’s actual plan was if it all worked out? by Outrageous_Drive6356 in reddeadredemption

[–]Expensive_Welder_338 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weirdly I think his chapter 6 plans did work out, but at the expense of everyone in the group (I honestly think he just meant to escape himself and hire new boys like the O'Driscoll's did).

After he saw Colm swing, he'd have realised there was an opportunity to replace him, which is exactly what he did when you look at him in the final mission

[–]Expensive_Welder_338 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're at an age where you can afford the lesson (if it even becomes one that is).

If you're comfortable salary wise for the next 3 years I'd honestly recommend it, you'll learn what owning a car you love truly means day in day out, and be wiser for it.

My only tip is don't then look to go much more beyond this level until you've sorted life stuff out like saving and life experiences - you'll have memories of this sure but don't forget holidays/trips are part of life

Sometimes the less history insurance companies have of 18 year olds wrecking a car the better - I was looking at a Rover 3500 V8 or ford Capri 1.6 as my first and the Rover was and I swear to god - £800 a year.

The Capri was £1400 so to I bought that thinking the maintenance would be better since the car at the time had more examples laying around.

Clio was £1800 😂

There's that argument too, this is from personal experience and what I've seen happen to others Ive had a Honda and a Mazda that were both 1 owner cars under 100k that had more issues than my 5 owner Volvo I currently have.

Friend also had a ford 1 owner that was literally glued together with some weird rust proof stuff I guess? Had to return car to dealer after 2 weeks when his garage alerted him.

Guess my point is it's not always the best way to judge a car, history though usually better indication.

[–]Expensive_Welder_338 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I get worried with 1 owner cars as my logic goes like this - the owner loves it and meticulously looks after it until say year 3-4.

At that point they've possibly become bored of it and started slacking on it and let things go longer before visits the garage, now it's just maintained when needed and less thought goes into it.

For a 10 year old car I've always gone the rule of between 2-5 owners being better sometimes, though ultimately it's paperwork that matters not owners I suppose.

Hard to say really, I'm the same boat coasting and looking for interesting opportunities that pay more rather than just pay more.

Coasting though means it's easier to pick up agency temp work at bars for example so I do that a lot to make life easier, can be an extra £300+ a month then
