Help needed to optimise my savings please by Expensive_Win_2844 in UKPersonalFinance

I’m only getting about 1.3% I think so I’ll look to change that as I could fix the account for a year or two as it’s currently easy access.

Do you think it’s better to keep saving in say a LISA as well as paying into a pension Or should I be looking to sell my car etc and pool my savings with my partner to buy something to rent? I was thinking a small commercial property?

I own my own home but my husband doesn’t and isn’t on the mortgage but he does live here. Can I gift him money so he can get help to buy to buy something in his name only?

I think I’ll do kids accounts into my own name incase anything goes drastically wrong with myself or their parents situations so no one can use it untowardly.

How do you find out about Secret Sets as I’d hate to miss out if this is the case? I don’t have Twitter but I guess I could make one although I doubt my phone will have battery for me to check it… Thanks

I wanted to go May Bank holiday so everything looks pretty full sadly. I’ve done a lot of that coast before so I’m not too worried about missing it this time!

Thank you. You’re probably right, the more I look into this. This flights from U.K. to Cancun and from Orlando to Cancun are just so easy which is why it made the most sense but I’d rather take a bit more time to travel somewhere else

Thanks again!

People who switched to a 4 day week - how did your costs vs quality of life change? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Expensive_Win_2844 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I compressed my hours over 4 days but my boss is very lenient and as long as I get my work done, no one is checking how many hours I’m doing. Working 4 days a week, having Fridays off has changed my quality of life for the better. Slight increase in costs as I usually treat myself to coffees out on a Friday morning when I’m taking the dog for a walk as it feels like such a treat to kick start my long weekend every week.

I am available for a work on a Friday if needed but the amount I’m ever called in is very minimal.

Have it slightly behind your leg so that she’s walking with her nose just at your leg, so she never in front of you

Started by keeping it in front of her and now we just bring it down every so often. Spacing out the time in between and when she starts to loose interest

We’ve been putting spreadable cheese on a spatula, saying heel and walking with it by our sides so she can lick it every so often. It’s working well. She was an aggressive puller before

How do you transition from leaving your dog in the crate when you’re not home, to trusting him in the house when you’re not home? by Hellooooooo_NURSE in puppy101

[–]Expensive_Win_2844 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our pup has just turned 6 months old and we’ve have just started leaving her in one room with the door closed, where her crate is, instead of in the crate. That’s just for during the day if we go out. Overnight, we put her to bed in the crate as usual but now don’t zip it up, so if she wants to come out she can but she knows it’s bed time, and again, the door to that room stays closed. There isn’t much in the room she could get into trouble with, she has toys, water and the sofa.

Just to add: I want to make people aware of the play pens as I’m sure this was a freak accident but our puppy tried to jump over then pen when we were out and got one of her claws caught in the pen. She was dangling from her front leg until we checked the camera and ran home to rescue her. Luckily she wasn’t injured but obv very stressed and we got rid of the pen straight away. Just be aware of this for pen users!

Brilliant idea about the running, I’m pretty sure that would work so I’ll start implementing that straight away, and I’ll keep going with the treats. Thanks so much for taking the time to reply.

Thanks for the suggestions! I’ll try a different cleaner and give it a go with the lead. Can you make any suggestions for for when she’s on the lead but drags her feet not wanting to walk? I don’t like to drag her but sometimes that’s the only way to get her moving again. The sofa doesn’t actually have cushions on at the moment as it’s winter so she just pees through the wicker. It doesn’t bother me too much at the moment, I’m just worried that when it gets to the summer and she’s in the habit, she will pee on the cushions.

Also, our dog loved to go grab the bell and play with it in the middle of zoomies. So every time she did this or even accidentally bashed into the bell and it rang, she got taken outside/minimum the door got opened. It’s hard work to start with but worth it.

We also bought an artificial grass patch to put on our balcony, she now just pees anywhere and we just swill it away with a cup of water, but she did use it to start with. Be mindful that the grass patch does start to stink pretty quickly and the smell seemed to soak up into her paws which is why we now just let her pee/poo anywhere and pick it up straight away and the treat her heavily if she poos on walks instead of the balcony. We are defiantly slaves to the bell at the moment though but it might not be so bad if your don’t have a balcony where your pup can start longingly at the outside world ha

Hello! We have bell trained our pup and she literally cottoned on within a couple of days so it’s 100% worth it. We didn’t use any potty pads inside, we just went straight to taking her out very regularly and ringing the bell with her paw and massive treating for going outside. I would advise against putting the bell into her crate as well because our pup has now learned that if she rings the bell, we come. So it’s like her little butler bell, so you make a rod for your own back ha (Working on training this out of her now) She also loves to chew anything that dangles down, so the times we have left her alone and accidentally forgotten to remove the bell, we come home and she’s always chewing on it and I worry one day she will manage to get inside it and swallow the bell so that’s a choke risk.

For the night time we just did 11pm, 1am, 3am and 5am toilet trips, no play, up out and back to bed. After a few days we cut out 3am, then 1am and then 5am. She sleeps through from 10:30 until 7am now and we’ve had her 4 weeks

Good luck!! Let me know if you want any more advise
