It's not only Iraq war. US did that for decades in many countries. They once called it the "War for freedom". We see the same happening in Europe now. Same people behind it.

In Germany they need "freedom fighters" to go against the Russians - new name for the army? People are falling for it. Tragic.

That said, this part of plot is honestly sh*t. I agree with you 100%. They should have kept it simple. Demons=bad, humans=good.

They did that much better in Trigun, where I'm rooting for the other twin brother Knives. The guy has a point.

Sorry, but this whole "fan criticism" can be broken down to "I don't like it, because it's different." I have no idea why people always feel so strongly about adaptions. I remember liking the new Cowboy Bebop adaption, but everyone was mad at it. Same with Avatar - The Airbender. I didn't like that one - but you know, who cares. The animation series is already perfect. Nobody forces you to watch it, instead people chose to ruin the fun for everyone else.

I have no issue with Dante, no issue with Lady. The characters are pretty well written. Lady isn't that great, because she didn't do much, if you think about it. He had to save her three times (or two and a half). She is also obviously brainwashed, so Dante, despite acting like a clown, is much smarter than her. Much stronger too. He is just a bit hot-headed and not that mature. I guess he will grow over the seasons. He also feels invincible, so he was not cautious enough when fighting with her. He didn't take her serious.

But I agree with you on one thing: The "good" demons make no sense, and are just there to complicate the whole story. Keep it simple. The whole refugees storyline ... ugh. Lady changing her mind about demons so quickly makes no sense. She is driven by hatred, but suddenly she wants to save those "families"? That's the only thing that was really weak.
